Attacking circlers
« on: June 28, 2007, 07:09:24 pm »
We all know circlers, players that will run in circles to avoid being hit by an alien while being able to chaingun the poor creature till they die. Here is how to defeat this noobish technique. The human will start running in one direction, usually counterclockwise. Instead of chasing them around this way, you must turn and face the other way, but do it quickly so they do not notice. They will continue running, and run right into you, where you can eat them!

Another trick is to get in the center of the circle, then just slash them in place, turning your view, but not moving.

Strafing with a tyrant is easy to do on b-suits and even lucy's.

Best solution is to just break the attacker's circle by moving away from him.

Yeah, but if the human happens to notice that quickly enough, he can start moving backwards and strafing at the same time himself and you'll have to catch up to him a little bit or sometimes a lot if you have a goon, but with a tyrant it shouldn't be that hard.

A good tactic is the fake death. Run away like you were heart, and do a very fast u-turn, come back slashing and chomping and bam, dead bsuit.

That works sometimes, but it's never a good idea if the bsuit behind you has around full hp, because then you're already quite damaged from them shooting you in the back and if they're good dodgers they can easily react and adapt to your maneuver.

(baiting works best as a goon) jump/pounce in the middle of a group, then jump out real fast (swinging your mouse wide) making it look like all those hits made you hurt (but you really only lost 50 hp) hide behind the nearest corner, and attack the one or two people who pursue. if you want to help someone out, get really hurt and have your friend behind that corner. works all the time

I go +goon, nab 3 snipes on the reactor, wait for the lucisuits and book it back to my tyrant buddies around the next corner on ATCS every time. It works like a charm, not to mention it's hilarious.

Bunny hop with a goon.  I swear no one else, except Anger, does it.  You keep a portion of your speed and can outmaneuver or confuse the human.

The beauty of it is that you can jump and chomp whereas pounce disables chomping.  So, you can hop around, throwing off their aim and countering their jumps of they are dodging (if they jump and you are jumping, their legs won't absorb the damage).  All the while chomping.  Chomps are way more powerful than a pounce and will push them around while they try to spin, throwing them off.

The simplest tactic is just pouncing them into a wall, thus limiting the direction they can move and allowing you predict where they are going to spin.

At the end of the day, being able to aim your chomps/mauls will save your butt more than any movement you make.

A very short demo of the bunny hopping chomp (dragoon) technique versus a shotgunner.  We are in a very tight hallway and he has armor.  I took about 1.5 hits.  This was also against the highest killer on the other team that singlehandedly won the previous game in about 7 minutes.

I use the normal jump(and charge the pounce in mid-air) before pouncing to safety because it's more speed-efficient. As you jump you naturally gain speed(as in any Quake game), instead of simply walking as you charge the pounce. This allows you to get away a fraction of a second faster.
