Good words.
Ev's binds might be good, they might not, but they fit his play style, make some that fit yours.

Hi David,
If you bothered to compare both of them, you would realize they are almost EXACTLY the same, with a few reversals.  Not to say that Evlesoa didn't write that himself...it's just...your comment makes no sense, once again.  His play style would be the same as a player using the binds from tremulous.info.

Thanks.  (Read next time)

Hi AppleJuice,
if you bothered to read the page david linked to, you would realize that i went to great effort to document all the things that go into creating a config for tremulous (except for 1 tiny thing i still have to finish) to encourage people to write their own instead of copy and pasting from the forums. you will always do a better job than someone who posted their config on the forums because they play tremulous differently than you do, and their binds are designed to fit in with how they play, not how you play...your comment makes no sense. no one's playstyle is the same and as a result no one should use the same set of binds that someone just posted on the forums or tremulous.info.

thanks. (read next time)

I won't even comment because the posts several people have made in the past few hours are just ridiculous. (Spread of Aimbots, example). Alliances ftw. Bye.

Hmm.. These binds do totally get you rid of the useful number keys, though..
Better move the binds over to the keypad..

My own binds are like this:
Keypad numbers: Human weapons.
Arrows: Preset human configurations (jetpacker, battpacker, standard, bsuit)
1/2/3: Buildscript. 1 goes LEFT in the buildlistt, 3 goes RIGHT in the buildlist, 2 builds. It's spammy, but great for when you are running as granger trying to build an egg. Won me plenty of games as AS2 vs HS3. See http://home.deds.nl/~megagun/temp/blaattrem.jpg and http://home.deds.nl/~megagun/temp/blaattrem2.jpg (The yellow vertical seperators denote stages)
Teamsay-binds:
4 - BASE
5 - INCOMING
6 - ATTACK
7 - DEFENSE
8 - VITAL STRUCTURES DOWN (never use this, I prefer hitting my teamsay button and just say what is down, usually)
9 - Forgot what this was.. Probably something useless..
0 - CLEAR
- - NO/NEGATIVE/NEVER
+ - YES/POSITIVE/AFFIRMATIVE/ALWAYS
[ - SORRY!
] - NO PROBLEM!
n - GRENADE!

Then there's the Unreal Tournament-styled Vscript I made but never use (basically, it spams a line with (in colours) various options) - see http://home.deds.nl/~megagun/temp/moosetrem.jpg
V - Reset Vmenu and open it
B - Show current VMenu
F1 through F10 - Perform VMenu action.

I believe I also have an autoevolve bind set up on 'M'.. Not sure..
Either way, I think I'd better package my entire script up, clean it a bit, and post a nice autoexec.cfg (or preferably something like extrabinds.cfg which can then be EXEC'd in autoexec.cfg) for you all to "share and enjoy!" :)

Also, the general idea here is that the buy weapon things are used with the right hand (you don't need to aim anyways when you're standing for a second near the Armory, right?) and the Build / Team Intelligence binds (which are used more often) are near the left hand, so that you can use them whilst still moving, without ever losing your aim.

Here's a question, though: is there a bind that toggles the jetpack on and off? And what is the bind to throw a grenade again?

itemtoggle jetpack and itemact nade are the two you are looking for.

Personally, I have the numbers 2-0 deal with building and fighting for both teams, with an elaborate system on the F keys to switch between human and alien bindsets while 1 toggles between fighting and building. It needs some work but is pretty good.
All of those are set in my autoexec.cfg - which is symlinked in every mod folder. At the bottom of that I wrote exec mod.cfg, and if I need to set up any mod-specific binds I put them in that file. In my mod, for example, I have the arrow keys bound to teleporting 100 gameunits in each compass direction :P

Hi Evlesoa,
I just wanted to say that you should read through the fucking posts. It really helps when you know what people have said. Like, a couple people have talked about how you should choose what fits your playstyle. Apparently the keypad fits his playstyle, and it does for me too. Also, it DOES say that the arrow keys are used for other scripts so he probably is using WASD. Still, it fits his playstyle. I use the keypad as well as the Insert, Home, Delete keys above the arrow keys. And I use the arrow keys to move, because that's my playstyle.

Thanks. (read next time)

Hi.

He obviously does not need to move or strafe or backpedal while buying things at the armory.  However, he obviously needs to yell at his team while moving.

edit: I started out by coping and pasting chunks of other's bind. But then I read kevlarman's wiki page then realized. "Hrm these suck"
And I just changed the general order of it. So it still doesn't suit my style but I use them and am used to them. I played with my brother binds before. It was strange because he had medkit on the mouse and I did not. So yes.

Make your own damn binds.

When I played Unreal I just used the right-hand end of a regular keyboard (the area for accounting - the numpad or "ten-key" section), and my mouse. 8)

Then when I added Quake 3 & Tribes and got into the WASD thing, I just used the QWERTY end, and the num keys above, and the funcs above those, 'cause that's the way those games were set up. At one time, I had to remember all the custom binds and scripts (Tribes building sucked without scripts) I had in about five different games (and their various mods), and none were like Unreal, so I homogenized them. :-?

I guess that's why I just left Trem set up as default controls, w/tutorial on. But I can see putting weapons - Quake/Tribes-style - on the num keys above the QWERTY row, in ascending order of lethality/cost/BFG-ness. I also see the usefulness of having basic loadout swap on the func keys, so two keystrokes take you from lucisuit to jet-pack repair tech, and one more gets you jetpack shotgun reac defender (ATCS). So that's probably what'll get me to actually make some binds. :-? :P

@Evlesoa: So then what are your Alien hotkeys? :D (and if you wouldn't mind, please reply by starting another similarly-named thread, in this Strategies & Tactics sub-forum, a possibly somewhat spam-free/flameproof area of the Trem forum community, and sure to be the home of many a Useful Thread.) ;)

P.S. I think maybe what Drac means is that when you say "oic ur stoopid" it makes people think the Jekyll side has gone away again. :O In the middle of a useful conversation, you just blurt out "wtf" or "that's asinine" and then wonder why people don't want to talk to you. :o Watch out. New York city may be turning you into a not very nice person. D: Otherwise, nice thread. :) (And really, what would you want everyone to say, "Oh you discovered binds, how nice?" A good basic list, and useful 4 t3h n00bzorz, not bad. Thanks for posting them. But don't feel like you have to "defend" them "against" anyone who "disagrees" with you. It's a perception thing, dude.) :( :)

Lol

this mad me smile :) thx
p.s. itz prolly praktikly t3h same as Q3a anywayz
replace luci with BFG
& flamer w/ nadelauncher
"Like, wow," said Ev, "I made up t3h worldz best bindz all by myselfz
and did not copy nor did I paste. But now u should copy them and paste them and be exactly like me but not quite, cuz I am t3h betterzorz becuz I did not do those same thingz. Nor would this entirely obvious and venerated system of keybinds possibly have been used by anyone anywhere ever to play any kind of game in the history of computers."

:D

@ t3h general public at large (and OP):
the usual setup (in most games) is something like
1 - chainsaw
2 - machine gun
3 - shotgun
4 - slightly cooler assault rifle
5 - chaingun/needler
6 - best assault rifle
7 - nadelauncher/mortar/autocannon
8 - freezer/flamer/zapper/shrinker
9 - railgun/sniperifle
0 - BFG

and players use increasing lethality or cost (or wanting to have a melee weapon and a cheap weapon and a shotty near their left hand) to make a set that works for them

& people will debate the first three and last three to death (OK the middle four too)

but that's the basic layout

Quake, Tribes, Deus Ex (I set it up that way), UT (I think it was more Quake-like, iirc), Daikatana were all some variation of this

heck I think even Rune was set up similarly :P

@Ev: thx
that is called a wheel and this is fire
no really
j/k
it is a useful thread
just take your own advice and take it easy
they are all just suggestions, right?

also, many people prefer to keep minus and plus for negative and positive teamchat reponses, not for gear loadout changes

also, I think I'm going to move screenshot to add it to itemact <item> on the scrollwheel (mouse 3 click)
it seems like when I need to activate an item, it would be a good time to take a screenie (medkit, jetpack, nade)
maybe I could add a teamchat to say
/me <- healing/flying/blowing stuff up/taking pictures/listening to music but not telling you about it
:D

I would recommend adding the phrase ;sell upgrades" to any weapon bind that is not an energy weapon. This avoids you being stuck with a shotgun and a battery pack.

Human Weapon Binds to avoid being KILLED at the armoury!

I just have a shotty/armor bind for buy binds and that's it. A few other people I know have the same...

Always put Sell weapon, then sell upgrades, then buy weapon, buy larmour, buy helmet. And when you're using an energy weapon, buy battpack should be at the end of all that; It is true that the order in which you put them down is the order in which it completes them.

You do know switching bind sets is as simple as typing /exec bindset.cfg in console or binding another key to /exec bindset.cfg, right? Atleast he makes his own.

I tried your builder binds once, Lava, pretty cool, good job.

@Evlesoa: there's that level of discourse thing again

Dude... if you could read some posts... in a thread you started... maybe you'd realize... other people are different than you...

Bottom Line: You're rude, ignorant, and somewhat illiterate

plus if you look closely at what Lava wrote, it's fairly straightforward

the only binds u posted are 4 Human attacker, Ev
what's up with the other 3/4 to 7/8 of the game?

Evlesoa. Learn to behave and ration your opinion. When even I'm irritated by the amount of arrogance someone displays you know it is bad.

The intent of the original post remains and as such any posts from now on not related to binds may be considered off-topic and is susceptible to deletion. This forum will stay clean of such hatred in the same way mapping, troubleshooting and modding do.
I’m busy. I’ll ignore you later.

Hmm it's unfortunate that I can't edit my post because I edited the binds a bit more (although don't play trem anymore I still have some better edited to fit the new system)
