Mac users: get a full-featured shareware IRC client FREE

I guess this isn't strictly Trem related, but I know that IRC is a communication format of choice for Trem players and personally I have been disappointed with both X-Chat Aqua and Colloquy.

Good news is, right now you can get Linkinus, a new shareware IRC client for OS X, absolutely free.  Just go to this website and enter a name and email address to have your license emailed to you right away:

Easy as that!  I thought someone would find this useful - I sure did.  Linkinus looks like it has a lot of really nice features, too:

Comp,

Thanks. Sounds awesome. I have been holding off, because I heard conflicting things about XChatAqua and Colloquy. I definitely consider this a useful Trem discussion, because from what I have seen, IRC makes game-finding much easier, leads to closer P2P communications, aids in bonding clanmembers, and generally makes the game a deeper experience. Please post more after you've used this new client for a while. I'm hoping to find a good IRC client for Mac for pretty basic applications, without having to spend too many hours rebooting or fine-tuning it. I wish iChat just had something like mIRC built-in, but that would mean that Apple paid attention to gamers... Again, thanks for posting and please let me know how it works for you.

Ok player1, I will let you know what I think.

Be advised, you should take this deal while it's hot because they are giving away a limited number of copies (20,000?  Something ridiculously high).  You can just get your license now and then DL the client whenever you like.

X-Chat Aqua is powerful...but honestly it is ass-ugly and it doesn't integrate well with other Mac things like Growl.  I like things that look nice and play with my other apps.  Colloquy looks better but has a really confusing and backwards interface IMO.  From what I have seen Linkinus looks to be a promising entry into Mac IRC competition.  I will try to set it up tonight and let you know my first impressions.

I barely use IRC clients with GUI's anymore, I have a screen session with IRSSI running on a remote server and I just shell in whenever I want to go on IRC, from wherever.

But I do use X-Chat once in a great while, or when a friend is using my MacBook I'll set them up with it.

Us noobs still need GUIs to survive...I'm not that great with the command line yet.  But I'm working on it!

yeah Tin that thing you said went just about completely over my head
but I think I got it on the fourth reread
I need a Mac-noob-friendly interface, and stability
something anyone can understand
like your non-l33t friend who is using ur MacBook :D
becuz I am pretty non-l33t and currently using a MacBook

Comp that sounds really cool thanks
& Growl? tell me more...

Computer[SU]

Well, it works a lot like Adium (best OS X AIM, MSN, etc. client) uses Growl - if you have Linkinus running in the background then it can work through Growl to tell you what people are saying, when people sign on and off, if you lose your connection etc.

I find this function very useful, it means I can do other stuff and still keep track of what people are telling me in my chat application.  If you have Quicksilver and the Adium plugin, you can even carry on a conversation without ever touching Adium, using QS to send messages and Growl to receive them.  It is somewhat tedious, though.

I know a lot of stuff about Mac software, you can pm me if you have any questions about anything and I'd be happy to help a fellow Apple nerd.
