Tremradio Site Difficulties

Is there any way to get past that infuriating browser check? I don't particularly care that my browser doesn't support everything, I'm quite sure that it can handle the tremradio microsite. This feels like some excuse to try to force firefox and opera down my throat yet again.

I set my user agent to IE, and its got a nice page.

Congratulations dasprid.

My site has one, although it links to the text only version...
MG.net also has one.

Any web developer you ask wishes IE would die.
So help them out and get Firefox.

I know all about the fact that IE isn't compliant with so many things and all of the difficulties it creates. I've done web design before, I'm fully aware of all of that. However, I'm quite sure that trying to view the tremradio site won't crash IE, I'm willing to bet quite a lot that the browser detect is simply a stupid attempt at getting people to switch rather than a legitimate fix for a problem with the site.

I won't go into why I'm not going to switch from IE right now, but suffice to say that a switch can't really occur for a while.

I agree with Jaime, the site warning is sort of annoying...the funny thing is, I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.4 and it still prevents me from entering:  "You should be using Firefox!"

Have some pity on people who have to use IE at work...we're all diehard Firefox fans at heart, but sometimes the world is not a perfect place.

The problem is that you should have two pages, one for IE, and one for all the other browsers that work with the standards. There's a big reason to not support IE. Blame M$ for not using standards and use firefox!

You guys are EXTREMELY helpful and all, but I'm thinking there's just a chance that you're not considering the people who don't currently have a CHOICE about using IE (as mentioned, it's complicated and I won't be able to use anything else for a good two months). I'd really like to take a look a look at the shows, but can't because some self-righteous person is trying to shove their hate of Microsoft down everyone else's throats.

it's not about hate of microsoft, i know a lot of web devs who are tired of having to go out of their way to make their website work in ie. you have to make a website for (relatively) standard-compliant browsers, then you have to do it again for ie, and after you've gone through all that wasted effort on ie, your code no longer validates.

To complicate the matter, most people posting in this thread recommend you use a broken browser like FireFox. I would strongly suggest that after you can ditch IE, you choose a sane browser like Opera.
Anything that FireFox tries to do is something Opera already has been doing for ages.

Opera is great, working lay and loads pages fast. But ever looked how much ram it takes? And on linux when using virtual desktops changing to the one with opera takes ages while when using ff theres no delay.

I have used both ff and opera for kinda same time. Opera is better when you dont need alot of tabs and use windoze but it sucks on linux

(Atm using ff)

a lot of firefox's "amazing memory management" is actually a result of bad extensions. i have 384MB ram and never have issues with firefox. yes it would be nice to use opera instead of firefox, but flashblock is a feature i'm not willing to browse without.

Funny, since I have never used any FireFox extensions, yet it decided to whore about 300mb of RAM, right up until the point I closed half of the tabs I had open.

My ff atm eats 220mb memory (7 tabs). Just started up opera, it uses 100mb after starting up but after i surfed to this site its using 170mb already with only one tab. kthxbye

PS. ff got a shitload of extensions, opera none..

Weird, my Opera is currently using 79MB of RAM, and it's been running since I have booted my computer, with at least 14 tabs open.

Maybe you did something wrong? Opera has never been above 100MB RAM usage here.

google for 'portable apps' and place the browser on your stick.
If you can't use the stick on the System, you should try and get your own box and stop using the one at your work.

Its more than likely that i have _alot_ more physical ram than you.
How much virtual ram and how much physical ram its using has nothing to do with the conversation.

Linux uses it as buffer for files you recently and often fetch from hd, windoze fills it with spyware

The problem is, I would have to send out a wrong Content-Type header for IE, because it tries to download application/xhtml+xml, and I want to follow strict standards. So even if I let IE through, it wouldn't work.

Well however, I have opened the site for every browser now. You still get the message, but you can proceed viewing the site by clicking on the proceed link. However, IE 6 and 7 still want to download application/xhtml+xml, but that's really not my problem.
