Couldn't leave this one of course.

The grenade isn't in this list because of limited number of options, sorry.

I chose the chaingun because it's great for killing smaller creatures like dretches and grangers as it has a nice spread. It also doesn't have a reload. The biggest disadvantage is that it's an ammo based weapon and so you can't take a bigger clip nor can you recharge at a repeater.

I'd say the biggest disadvantage is that it's very inaccurate without battlesuit. I actually *like* fighting chaingunners with my marauder: they are either inaccurate, or crouch to invite headshots.
f you have a demo of ass-kicking basilisk playing against experienced opponents, ESPECIALLY in later stages, send it to me.

A helmet can fix that one.

I personally like the flamer, you can stand still, and dretches come to get you, then woomph, <name>was grilled by Paradox

The chaingun is a good starting weapon, but you really need a battlesuit or an armada of turrets to crouch on to be usefull. The pulse rifle is my second favorite gun. It does similar damage as the chaingun, has no kickback, holds lots of ammo, and has a faster firing rate.

The shotgun is a good weapon, but not fast enough for big bugs. If you have 4 guys with a shotgun, a tyrant is dead instantly. One shotgun can take down a marauder or dretch or granger or basalisk, but is too slow for bigger enemies.
The grenade simply needs a better lob.

Actually grenades are almost overpowered as it is. It's just that they aren't of much use against moving enemies due to the timer involved. On the other hand they absolutely rock in crowded spaces with lot's of static structures. Which is why any human going out against an alien base and having the credits should buy a grenade. When you enter the base throw the nades around and leave while shooting the goons coming out. A few seconds later most of the base is destroyed and probably a few goons too.

The shotgun, definately, good damage, you have to aim, can kill dretches at medium range, and you can use it without a battlesuit.

The chaingun is the second weapon i prefer, but you have to be at stage 3 to use it effectively. like mentioned, crouching just invites for headshots.

I use almost any weapon, except the flamer, I find it really lame and annoying (blocks my sight).

damn right theres no faster way to take down dretches and going up to the next stage other than using that mass driver..

my map of choice to use it on would be uncreation...ill stand on turrets or crouch on an armory higher up than everyone to allow them to shoot and ill just snipe any dretch that comes from that hallway. go ahead take a small peak i dare ya!!!

Wait, so the Battlesuit make the chaingun fire without recoiling?

I'm a bit of a jettard, so I never noticed this.

Does the Battlesuit have any other interesting perks like this?

can turn around when grabbed by a basilisk, isn't affected by poison or gas. Yours truly for $400 credits!

PainSaw forever. There is nothing that annoys a Tyrant more than a Dretch in the way, except if that Dretch is a Human with a PainSaw and the Tyrant is stuck in the middle of a few "easy to destroy" turrets.

Hmmm ... I'm the only one so far who voted for lucifer cannon. I think it's the best ... as long as you don't shoot yourself or your base. I get the most number of kills with it. Second would be pulse rifle, the cips are often too short to take on a tyrant with ... while you can with a lucifer cannon.

Funny how little this poll has to do with reality. I'd expect majority of people to vote

machinegun
pulse rifle
flamer
chaingun
lucifer

...but Mass Driver ? Shotgun ? Lasgun ?

I think people are cheating themselves. Just like the guy who voted on basilisk but plays mostly dragoon and marauder. We'll have to wait for more votes.

The mass driver is amazing, what are you talking about? Often, I'll buy it as soon as I can afford one, then never stop using it until the match is over.

I think thats not right, I use rifle in S1, Shotgun in S2 and Chaingun in S3, and on Maps like Niveus, where there are long corridors, Massdriver.
Also I see ppl use massdriver and shotgun all the time, and in my opinion those players should be feared most.

My personal thoughts:

-prifle is very powerfull, but hard to aim (blast-delay) and you have to reload

-lasgun has a slow fire rate for its relative low damage, better to use the free rifle instead and aim

-flamer, aaah well, i just call it a noob weapon^^

-Lucifer, good but hard to control, and devastating if shoot into constructions/teammates.

-saw, fun to play (gives you the Halloween H20 feeling), but thats all

I participated in a game once where half of the H-Team was using massdrivers (and that VERY effectively), with the zoom option you have a perfect sniper, especially sitting somewhere on high ground.
With a Batterypack its like having a long distance, precise shotgun, can't think of anything better.

4 hits = 1 marauder dead, and he won't even know what hit him.

Flamers are limited in their use. I consider them best used to clear the area around the base, in conjunction with some other weapons. They're ammo based so it's wise to have an armoury nearby and the self-damage effect makes being near a medpad useful.

Pain Saw is the best alien base eliminating tool the humans have. There are some situations where it doesn't work but hiding between the om and the wall ( aliens often place the om near a wall ) where dragoons can't reach you and kill the om in 2 seconds top sure is powerful. You can also kill and egg in 1 second. There isn't enouth time for aliens to prevent you from killing their buildings if you get in range :)

Indeed, a painsaw guy with a grenade can basically take down an alien base alone. The problem usually is getting the painsaw guy in (which is why teamwork is so important).

then u go mission impossible and like sneak in like i always do..helmet is the best and is needed for this unless u feel lucky and that the route u take will be clear.

i alwasy attack the alien base once i hit s2 and u can ask other people i do some heavy damage with grenade, saw, helmet, light armor, jetpack
im pretty good at finding abandonned routes on most maps. and can sneak in withought gettin caught or when the message about the overmind dying kicks in

some maps are difficult for this though when there arent many entrances like acts or whatever its called and theres another i have trouble with....but i cant think of it at the moment

lots of times my whole team must camps....fine with me be pussies ill just grab my gear and.....cya..alien base won we win...then my teammates will talk about how great they are and how other team stinks....

HELLO I JUST DID ALL THE F'N WORK!!!! WERE NOT GREAT I AM GREAT ME..JUST ME I DID IT ALL!!!!!

though sometimes my teammates will help out greatly and i appreciate it..best to play with people u know...

o look at that i went off topic once again..

soo ummm. i use mass driver till dretches start evolving..(no more one hit kills) then i whip out gear listed above and do what i mentioned..

You should give the builders credit too, they build the nice defenses so that the rest of the team can be wussies and stay in the base ;).

Without your team you are nothing, without you your team is nothing. (Only exception is if you are a Predator as in Aliens vs. Predator ... Predators are a true army of one)

The painsaw is a good weapon, but it has a steep learning curve. It is best with a helmet and armor, because a swarm of bugs can take you out without. It is funny, when a dretch or basalisk comes up to bite you, and while they come, you just run twoards them, bzzz, they die.

For base attacking, it is best to have 2 guys with psaws, a few with rifles, one guy with a mass cannon, a chaingun, and if avalible, a prifle or lucifercanon
