Improvements for voting interface
« on: April 25, 2006, 10:09:18 am »
Warning : most of what will be said here is shamelessly riped from W:ET ;) Anyway, it's good to say it again because I've seen games get out with a lot of flaws that were mostly fixed in W:ET and it's a shame I say ( BF2 anyone ? ).

- Remove global kick vote. I don't see a reason why Aliens can vote to kick a Human player although I've seen some people try to do that. ( against me )
- You cannot participate in a kick vote against yourself ( same thing, I voted No against my own kick :) ).
- All votes require a server configurable percentage of Yes on the total possible participants to pass. Those who don't vote are counted as a No at the end of the time. Also, all votes must be worded so that No is the obvious default option for those who won't vote :)
- Vote ban : if you start in a single game 3 votes that are rejected, you are banned from starting votes for the end of the game.
- Since you cannot change your vote once you've done it, once there is a sufficient number of Yes or of No to decide, the vote ends.

Other possibilities :
- If a server admin starts a vote, it takes effect imediatly :) Rename the voting menu something like "Admin" or "Refere" like in W:ET.
- Random team shuffle vote.
- "Balanced" team shuffle vote although that once can be very hard since a good builder might get 0 kills anyway.
- Team surrender vote.

18 ) Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can't get out.

If I'm not mistaking admins don't need to vote, they have more powerful tools at their disposal.

Personally I'd like to see a team vote to make somebody killable by team members, albeit with no point gain. (why oh why doesn't this forum have that nice little icon?)

Well, in the W:ET case, voting interface makes for a good easy to use admin interface for the most common use cases :) See, once you implement let's say a vote to change the current map or game mode, you can make use of that same interface for the admins. The way W:ET does it is elegant I say.

That one is easy. Seeing as the average skill of a griefer is about  that of Stef (UserFriendly reference) they can only win by annoying away and kicking all better players.
