Underworld - Delta[/b][/size]

I am only releasing the early versions of this map in .bsp form, .pk3 if ye wish.

Known Issue(s)
    Alien Cannons do not work very well.
    No lighting, Fullbight.

Testing

Place the .bsp in the
/Tremulous/Base/Maps
folder.

Open Tremulous
Create a New Server

In Console, type:

Code: [Select]

/sv_pure 0
/devmap underworld-delta
or
/map underworld-delta


The Map will then load up.

I do not need to download this to see that it will only make me vomit, i can judge by your previous troubles.

You just made a map in about a day, well done, nice box-hollowing-CSG-Skills there, i bet its about 20 brushes mostly with invalid faces anyway.

The alien cannons don't work - you can hear the pop, but you don't get launched anywhere. The vents look a little unrealistic since they're dry but below the slime level.

Ive already mentioned that.
No need to remind me.

If the vents were full of slime you would get no where, and die quickly.
Im still thinking about lowering the level of slime.

It took bout 4 days.
I didnt use CSG hollow at any point!
Its actually 314 brushes, and 42 entities.

And anyway, wtf is with the aggressive behavior?

Took a look, a few suggestions :

- To give your map a name in the loading screen, enter a "message" field into any worldspawn.
- Your walls are too thin. As a general rule, I usually go with at least 16 gu for wall thickness, just because walls look silly when they are paper-thin.
- The vents are kind of pointless. They lead straight into the slime, which is useless, and they are so long even a blaster could hold aliens off. THeyt should be filled with slime anyways, if physics meant anything :P.
-The rotating fan thing is fairly pointless as well. Does it even have a purpose? If you want to keep it, you should make it so that it is supported by something, and not just floating there.
- Rants can't get to the cannons, or even fit in them, which is probably a good idea to make possible for a silly map like this.
- What's up with the doors? Specs cant float through them. Why not just use func_door?
- Make your bridge a little sturdier. Thicker, and supported.
- Make the map less of an MD haven. Add some obstacles, things to hide behind, etc, etc.
- The little platforms way up in the corners are stupid. A human base up there would be chaos, and would probably ruin a game.
- I'm guessing it's not permanent, but you should always start humans and aliens with a reactor/om, and usually a turret/tube or two at least.

All in all, a lot of newbie mistakes, but hopefully you will learn and make this a fun an interesting map :).

Sadly, correct.

I will try to implement all of these in my next release.

If something is created in under a week, by an unexperianced mapper, it is not worth testing.

What you have created is not a map, it is something you huddled together in radiant.

It is nothing. There is no gameplay, no direction, no paths, no cover. There is no feel to the map. Before you start whacking brushes into the editor think about what comes out in trem.
That map was intended as a funmap, I can see that, but even fails at that since the main gimmick, the cannons, don't work.
And before making even an alpha public to a crowd you know will be deadhonest and hard on you have its faults worked out and tested by a few people you know ingame.

Short: There is no advice to give since there is no direction in which this map is heading.

Ninja, way to not be afraid to release your first map to the public.  If everyone wants to criticize your maps, then let them.  I always like to remember this old quote:

"The only way to get better at something is to do it."

And good for you for trying.  You're an ambitious young mapper who wants to make a name for himself, and I think that's cool, whether or not people decide that it sucks (only because you're a "noob" mapper).

Keep on mapping regardless of what people say.

I agree with Thorn. I released my first map i made in my communuty, and boy o boy did it fail ever so miserbally. What we're trying to do here is give you some criticism. However, some from others may be taken a different way. Don't let it bother you. Look at it as we are trying to help, in a sense that you should make a few maps (bout 3) before you even think of posting here. Most of the people here have been playing / mapping for a long time.

It took me a few maps, and though i don't consider my self a "legitimate" mapper yet. i can but out something sweet in a weeks time. (i sit here in front of this box with a screen for about 12+ hours a day to bust out something so fast)

And my personal advise to you is this. Take your time that can't be stressed enough. you WILL encounter unexpected problems. Use things that you wouldn't know how to pronounce. For me it was all about trial and error, and a hell of alot of reading up on a buch of tuts. (thanks to google.com XD). It will take you some time. But you will get it.


P.S. If you can help it, don't ever release a ALPHA map on these forums. 95% of the time you will get bad comments and things alike(unless you're a 1337 mapper). Learn well my young padawon.

Ok maybe this is not the best of maps, but I would have to say it would be great if we had a CTF mod. Ok so it has lack of lighting and can use some touchups, but I kinda like it. The dretches have no way of evading fire though sadly, humans will feed off dretches. Right now there is one way of getting inside the bases, well at least as I can see. A few turrets there and humans are un defeatable.

I was afraid to release my first map, hell I didn't even understand how to make a pk3 so it would be unusable by pure servers.

Can the community expect another release of this map, or do you have another map in the works?

It is better, but the main problems are still there, thats why I havent released it yet.
