WIP - The Tube
« on: August 05, 2007, 01:47:44 pm »
This is my first map for Tremulous, but I've been mapping for other games for quite a while now. This map is based on the London Underground, aka The Tube. It will have 3 (?) stations connected by railway lines and hopefully have a train running in each one, assuming I can time the doors to open properly. I've only been working on this for maybe 3 hours now, as you can tell from the screenshots, but I thought I might as well start a thread on this so anyone interested can follow it's progress.

- Hmm, I've tried 2 different image hosting sites and neither are working, I'll upload screenshots later.

looking forward to it. I live in London and use the underground occasionally will be great if theirs moving trains (which i doubt) and would be nice if mappers made maps for their independent country/state.
Just me.

Right, these are the pictures I was trying to upload, I'm working on this right now so I may update these soon.

Tremalgar Square (Trafalgar Square)
The tunnel from the ticket hall to Platform 1

Platform 1

It's nothing particularly exciting yet, with very little detail at this stage. I was wondering whether or not to add an above ground area, like Piccadilly circus or a small part of Trafalgar Square, but I'm not sure how well Tremulous copes with outdoor areas in maps. Does anyone have any good Tube related cartoons or posters which I could use in this?

Just to clear one thing up, this is not related to the "Metro" map in any way. In fact, when I started this map I hadn't even heard of the metro map.

What do phong shaders do?

I know, I haven't got round to adding shaders to any of those textures, but I'm definately going to use a phong shader on most of the tunnels, since they are very angular without.

Right, before anyone else corrects me on this, I am well aware that there is no such station as Trafalgar Square, this map is not intended as an accurate representation of Central London, it's more a mish-mash of different bits, I guess you could call the the Frankensteinian Line, (Or Frankenline...). I'm going to build a small, modified version of Trafalgar square, which is why I needed t oput a station there.

I happened to notice that the player models are in md3 format, would it be possible to use one as a statue to replace the top of Nelson's Column?

Erm, care to elaborate on that?

Also, which would you prefer: Bases with just a reactor/overmind and spawns to start with, or more developed bases?
