Help with !commands and admin.
« on: August 21, 2007, 07:37:21 am »
Okay, I'm probably missing something obvious. I got my server up and running, showed up on the main list and all, but then I realized I couldn't use any ! commands even though I set up an admin.dat file based off of a released file that has worked on other servers. The problem I was running into was that I thought that level 0 admin controls were automatically given to anybody that entered the server, but I guess not. Now this might be that I'm missing something from my server.cfg, but I'm still confused as possible. That is problem number one, and the second problem is that when I log into my server from the game via /rcon, I'm not sure how to set my admin level from there, can somebody please help me by giving me the command to use in either the command box or via the /rcon. Any advice would be a big help, thank you for at least reading this.

I hope you're running a more updated game.qvm than stock, if not.

Okay, now I'm having a new problem, the following keeps shutting down the server: " ERROR: G_ParseSpawnVars: found : when expecting  " I've read that this results as the game.qvm and the tremded don't match, but I've downloaded them again and again, the latest version from the same site, but this message keeps popping up.

Then go back to the starting point and read the "readme.txt" again. Most likely you have the files in the wronmg places :)

Fan,

Go back to your vm folder where your game.qvm is located and change te name from game(2).qvm to just game.qvm

I also had the same error and thats what fixed mine.

I've reread time and time again and I'm not finding anything wrong, I checked a few guides on how to set it up as well, but still it shows that I have everything correct. I can create a successful server if I execute from tremulous.exe, but I know that in order to get all the good stuff, you need to execute from tremded.exe and whenever that happens, I keep getting the same error message.

Okay, thank you all for your help, but the problem was that I put the game.qvm and admin.dat within the wrong application data area, cause their's two of em, and I was supposed to put them in the Local Settings one, but I put them in the other, so it was just a small misplace. Still, thank you for your speedy responses.

Whoops, forgot one thing, how do I set it so that whenever somebody comes into the server, they're level 0 admin?

EDIT: Sorry for the 4 posts in a row.

Another EDIT: When I entered my server, it was acting weird, such as when I clicked to spawn, it would say "You cannot build on this surface" and all that jazz, and I'm not too sure on the problem.

Okay, I think I found the problem, the server is set using the TJW mod, but I don't know how to make the server force those who enter to switch to the mod, can anybody help?

You could always try spawning from console, it usually works with that error.

Is your server pure, or unpure.
I thought it was summin to do with that, someone correct me if I am wronhg or help me if Im right cos I cant remember much about it.

Pure or unpure? I'm not sure what pure or unpure is or how to check.

That can be caused by having an additional vms.pk3 in your server base folder. Try removing whatever additional pk3's may be in there other than data and vms-1.1.0.

Not including the maps in the folder, I only have the vms-1.1.0 and data-1.1.0. I also have a few .cfg files, but I don't think that affects them.
