I love it.  Telling an OSS project to get some funds.  I got a better idea, you provide the funds since you're so hopped up for it.  I doubt the devs are driving Ferrari's with their tremulous income

@Kaleo: The only reason why I said vbulletin is because it's much more powerful then bb2. I troll on explosm forums, pbnation and more. All of them are vbulletin because they have a better warning system then IPB or any bb system.

Vbulletin is hella great. I think that'd be very possible to get here, too; I visit a forum much less active or popular than this, ran by one guy right out of college, and he's willing to pay for the license out of his own pocket. I think if a monthly forum fund was taken up to ease the cost, it'd totally work. Not that SMF is terrible, though. Anything with avatars will be great.

Also, devs? Let's, um, go in a different direction with the forum skin this time (to put it politely).

EDIT: Also, I don't guess it would be possible to move all the forum history over there, would it? I think that works in boards using the same software, but I wanted to double-check as to boards with different software.

Yes there is a way to convert them. We did it with the MG forums from YaBB to SMF and it worked pretty well. They also have a phpbb converter among others.

You're missing the point.  They've committed a helluva lot of time (= money) to creating Tremulous in the first place.  Expecting them to commit more just because you all don't like the boards is rather selfish, particularly considering it is about the game that they spent so much time creating, the one that they allow all of us to play for free.

Just like working on and releasing 1.2, the devs will put up new forum software in their time.  I would be more than happy to help them if they so desire, but I would certainly not rush them OR expect them to do it.  A LOT has been given to us for free, maybe we should be thankful for that instead of thankless about what we have been given for free.

SMF, MyBB(free version of vBulletin basically), and anything else moderately new, all are 10x better than phpBB. phpBB3 would have been great, except they decided not to use any ajax, and so they cant compete anymore.

As for pay boards, I prefer vBulletin, mainly because its more powerful, and easier to manage. It is also cheaper than IPB ($160 vs $180)

@Tuple: For one, I am very thankful that Tremulous is not only open source, but free as well. I applicate the fact that the devs are taking so much time for this project, but in fact. You are going back on yourself. You're saying, that they don't have enough time and/or money to add another board. The money part I can understand, but while timbo is most likely still programing, he is working on converting this forum over to an SMF forum. If tremulous turned into cost-per-month type game, you would most likely never see me again. Not because I am cheap, but because I'm honestly not willing to pay for something that will just keep sucking my wallet dry. Thus why I don't play idiotic games such as WoW. If it was a one time only fee, or maybe an annual fee, I would pay, hands down. I love this game, much more then many games that I've played. I carry full respect for the devs. Especially Timbo and Overflow ;)

@Caveman: I love coming home from vacations to nice fresh flames. Its so inviting. When I am talking about internet portals etc. I am not fucking around. I do that shit for a living. I get paid to one, assist with already made websites, and two, create websites for companies whom are in need. Considering that I don't play Tremulous much anymore, mainly due to the fact that school is starting up again and I've earned myself a major reputation for annihilating SST a few weeks back. I have no reason to come back unless to boredom. If I were to actually receive something that would want me to come back, sure as hell, I would be more then willing to donate as much money as needed.

No, I am saying that the DEVs have already committed a very large amount of time/money to this project.  Expecting them to give more is selfish and frankly, sounds pretty ungrateful.

By the by, you're not the only person working on internet "portals".  I daresay a number of us tremulous fans do that for a living, so put your money where your mouth is instead of expecting someone to put their money where your mouth is.

Bahahaha. AOL'isms make me laugh.

I would love to "put my money where my mouth is." But why would I do it, if I know it would have no effect? I PM'ed Timbo about two weeks ago asking for a name change, no effect or reply as of today. What does that say...
