brightness/gamma resets back to dark
« on: May 06, 2006, 08:29:07 pm »
My brightness is set to 2.0, but everytime, in several minutes time, it resets back, so everything gets dark, and I have to use the Video menu to get it back up. :o  It's really annoying. Can someone please help? Binding didn't help either (bind x "seta r_gamma 2.000000"). Doesn't do a thing. :(
I have an Ati Radeon 9600 XT, if it helps for someone. Thanks in advance, guys!

My brightness resets quite often. I have to set the brightness (/r_gamma) to a different value and set it back.

Try making a bind that switches it from 1 back to 2?

i think its a windooze problem

i had this on "older" win-versions on newer cards (like a radeon 9000 on win2k or me), seems that windows overwrites the setting (because you can change gamma in the ati/nvidia windows menu)

don't know how to solve that tho..

I suspect the actual gamma change is hardware made. Its also posible to do that (gamme changes) with software. Ask this type of gamma (software gamma) to dev's because hardware gamme its very buggy prone.

Thanks for the replies to all! So, I'm not the only one who's got problems with that  :-? . Other games aren't doing such things, so I presume it's the modified Q3 engine. I hope in the future version it will be fixed or can be overriden. Also, bindings don't work (when gamma resets, and I go back to the Video Settings, the slider there is all the way up, s oit's still maxed. I slide it down a little, then up, and voila, brightness all over the place  :o ).

My gamma only resets if I press alt+enter which is a known bug.
Try to type into console
/bind x "r_gamma 2"
It should work.

I don't use task switching (ALT+TAB) while playing Trem. Also, bindings don't work, the engine thinks my gamma is 2.0, but the screen is very dark (as I mentioned, the slider is all the way up after the gamma reset). I think I'll have to wait for an improved version (with added maps, I hope  :) ).

Just reset your gamma to something different and then reset it back (maybe use two binds).

Thanks for the advice, with two binds, I can get it to work. Now to find two unused handy buttons, which are close to WASD   ...

You could also make a toggle like this:
Code: [Select]

set g1 "r_gamma 1; bind v vstr g2"
set g2 "r_gamma 2; bind v vstr g1"
vstr g2

You only need one key then ;-)

I just wanted to say that I've formatted and reinstalled WinXP on drive C:/ and now everything works flawlessly. I don't know, if it was because of the latest Ati driver (I doubt it) but more like that VGA system files and other were stacked. Thank you all for your help! ;)
