Dretch*Storm. Prelude to Corruption...?

Hi. I go by the name of Sea Mouse and variants thereof, and here is a copy of something I posted on the Dretch Storm forums. I'm putting it here because the server owner / brother of it may delete, edit, or similar the original post, and to give a bit of headsup.

Also note, the admin in question is the server owner (not maintainer), Evilfrog.

Alright. Normal game on procyon, kattana ripped human base apart several times, but it kept popping up till it was built in one of the cheesiest spots on the map (the alcove near the teleporter in the nexus area, or rather through it) So humans are camping for damn near an hour, without progress on either team.

It gets to rampage, fine, fine, whatever. I decided that since the humans were pulling some camping bullshit out of their asses, and because they always win TA anyway, I went to +basi to wait it out, since we all know one alien can't take out a horde of pulse rifle suits with radar and nade, I went to hide in one of the MANY available places in procyon. I picked the most common place, the top of nexus. Now slowly the team got whittled down during rampage, and at total annihilation I sat there and waited.

Now while this might be a cheap tactic, it is by no means against the rules anymore than camping is.

For the record, there WAS a human up there, and that meant only a basi or below could have reached him, maybe a goon if they were good, but I doubt it. Anyway, me and someone else managed to push him off after slashing him a bit.

After a few minutes of TA, conrad called a slap vote, which I thought was disabled but apparently not. Anyway, it failed. Conrad reconnected, called another, heckle canceled it since slaps in TA are bullshit, regardless of the reason, and that happened once again.

I probably would have died anyway, but Evilfrog decided that it was his way to intervene in a paradox-like manner. IE slapping me himself, taking off a bit of hp too unless I'm mistaken, or maybe more than a bit, I couldn't tell between TA and pulse spam.
I died of course, and humans won.


Now some things I'd like to point out:

1) There were humans camping equally cheesy spots, including the alcove behind teleporter without going through it, the one nothing bigger than a dretch can get to, which would have been killed before it even got close, or a goon sniping, which that close to human base would have been ripped to pieces anyway, even if the suit didn't run through the teleporter, then just backtrak, teleport again, go back to alcove, all the while firing on the goon. IE nearly impossible to hurt, much less kill.

2) Heckle, which by far is one of the better admins on the server as far as I can tell, in that he upholds the rules and tries to keep people from picking on others or making the server into another sst, is likely going to lose admin status, or a level of admin. I get this from Evil saying, and this is not an exact quote, "he won't have that ability much longer" in reference to !cancelvote.

3) +basi, which is one of the few aliens that actually stand a chance as far as hp drain goes (rants lose more than humans ircc proportion wise, as does everything else, or at least faster). Guess what? Evil's going to make ghost nerf it. Just like +mara. Isn't that lovely? Now all of the 'smaller aliens', though which ones he didn't mention, are going to be ensured to die a lot faster than humans. (FYI dretch already loses 3 per second at TA, even though they're a valuable asset even on assult, since they can easily dodge pulse spam while raining hits on a crowd of confused suits, and now can't even get more than a few steps before dieing)

4) One of the best parts of this server is the fact that admins don't get unnecessarily involved, even during the *many* other times this has happened, before Mr. high and mighty paradox-impersonator decided to intervene.  It is also the firm belief that if any lessar admin even talked about it, their status would immediately come into question. But since nobody has equaled power of froggy there, there aren't any checks or balances.

And yes, I'm pretty sure that even if this isn't deleted, it'll probably edited. Which is why I'm taking the liberty to post a copy of this on other tremulous forums so that players fed up with sst and the like will be properly warned.

Isn't everyone making a little bit too big of a deal out of it all? If I understand it, Heckle's only offense was !cancelvoting a slap vote, and Evilfrog's only offenses were !slapping anyway and possibly overreacting. It seems to me that the general consensus is that rampage, while a fun way to end a game, has its flaws, such as aliens being able to get to unreachable spots. Even if the "integrity of the game" was disturbed by either Heckle or Evilfrog's actions, I don't think it would warrant the reaction it's gotten.

Really what's got me riled is the fact that this isn't the first time Evilfrog's done something less than mature with admin powers. If you'll recall, he flipped out a week or so ago and banned people at random, and took away admin just because he could.

On top of that, ghost's pretty much evil's lapdog, and it's apparent to ANYBODY who's read his posts regarding evil.

On another note, I think it's about time for the next bearable server t open up. Armageddon, SST, Satgnu, DS, etc. each had their turn of a good community, and each have either vanished, or crumbled into a slum no good player in their right mind would play in. (though DS hasn't quite reached that point, but if things don't turn around it will rather soon)

But then, this is just my opinion, based on past occurrences.

Anyways, despite how I felt previously, D*S isnt really that bad of a server. It has its ups and downs, same as SST.

Its not the admins that make the servers, guys, its the players. So, you can go server to server trying to find the one that fits you..but unless your attitude changes, you're only going to carry it server to server and never find what you're looking for. Odds are, if the players start perking up, those so called "admins" will either be kicked, mature up, or something else. Dont just leave a server without trying to fix the issue at hand in the first place. And dont bash teh server when you do leave. Just because you play the game, in no way means that you are contributing to it. We, the server owners, put out a lot of money so that you guys can do what? Nothing but sit there and bash the servers, even if you play on it.

Just as your country, stand up for it. Dont coward when push comes to shove.

That was already covered, ages ago when an SST-Admin decided to ask for donations while insulting all at the same time.

So once again, please speak for yourself, If you dish out _lot of money_ for a server, get a cheaper one. And before you say it, yes not everyone can host for free, like we do.

An admin who mutes children in flame wars will create a much different atmosphere than the admin who joins in, and then begins using their admin abilities to penalize those who disagree.

This is particularly true when you take into account the number of children who play Tremulous.  With less experience in online worlds, they will take their behavioral cue's from the "more experienced" members of the group, the admins.

Look we don't abuse our admin on Dretch*Storm.
If you see abuse you report it with the proof of a demo and condump.  But do not try to report something you can't cover up.  We try to make the server playable without having anyone deconning, crashing, spamming useless shit like that, most of the people that come into Dretch*Storm like to have great games, and with saying noobs, I would just like to say that almost everyone who plays tremulous is a noob (no offense), but just because you are here longer and have more experience means nothing, you were new to the game before and you were once a noob.  Really the only thing to define noob is people who like to Decon, Crash, or spam.  But I have nothing to against anyone who flames the community or anyone who plays in the Dretch*Storm servers.
I would also like to add if you see anyone who fails to follow !thelaw on the server report them with a demo.

Our game servers have only but one rule all players and admins must abide:

SERVER LAW: DON'T DISTURB THE GAME - OBEY OR LEAVE

What does this mean?

These are examples of what are considered game disturbances.

   1. A player decons (deconstructs) buildings in his base without asking or warning; in a malicious attempt to make his team lose the game.

   2. Intentionally TK (team-kill) others out of spite or amusement. This includes nading (throwing a nade) to a group of teammates without apologizing. Also, some players like to annoy others by slashing or shooting without actually TK'ing, you are allowed to defend yourself but please warn an admin before doing so.

   3. Arguing in chat with another player and making this the only topic on the chat.

   4. Any comments that may offend other players due to their RACE, RELIGION, GENDER or SEXUAL ORIENTATION. This includes words or player names.

   5. Spamming the chat (sending repetitive messages) with useless propaganda or stupid comments.

   6. Any kind of harassment via public or private chat.

   7. Aim assisting technology (Aimbots) are strictly prohibited on our servers. If you are found using one, you will be banned on the firewall (not just the server). If you use DSL, we'll ban your whole subnet (DSL company). If you are curious, go play with aimbots elsewhere, not on our servers. Don't ruin Tremulous, say NO TO AIMBOTS.

Mostly use common sense and good sportsmanship. The game is meant to be fun, keep it friendly.

If you have suggestions, post them on the Feedback forum.

So please save yourself the time of calling people noobs when yourself is probably one.   Keep that in mind.

Common Sense tells you that sitting in a place that is completely inaccessible to your opponents to win is CHEATING.

There is no Sportsmanship because you have found a way to cheat the current system and are using it to your advantage.

There is no Fun because hiding through-out rampage and TA while the entire server full of people waits for you to die is FUCKING GAY.

Such places don't exist in tremulous maps.  Everywhere is accessible by some class of your opponent.  Perhaps you aren't referring to tremulous?
