Work In Progress: LOCKDOWN
« on: October 07, 2007, 07:47:24 pm »
I'm working on a new map called Lockdown, and this is the topic I'm creating for screenies/progress development/suggestions/etc.

Some of you may know me as Gman19. This account was created because my Gman19 login spontaneously stopped working. I can't login, so I'm using a new account.

Those of you who do know who I am, you may remember my Caverna WIP map (that was unfortunately deleted from my hard drive for unknown causes/reasons) and also the Residential/Asylum ideas I had. Unfortunately, my entire mapping work including maps, programs, textures, resources, etc. was deleted from my hard drive for unknown reasons. I have come up with a new idea, Lockdown, and would like to share that idea with you.

Map Name: Lockdown

Setting: Junior High School campus

Time: 2100 Hours/Nighttime

Map Type: Partial Mission-Based

Map Layout: (Scan will be uploaded upon completion)

Background:
1400 (Same Day): Alien Overmind crashes into courtyard. School security is alerted to investigate.
1430: Dretches respond to investigation by killing the investigative team and simultaneously attacking North hallway and West hallway. Heavy human casualties.
1450: Administration quarantines courtyard, West hall, and North hall by sealing containment doors 2-8.
1500: Administration contacts HIAT (Human Investigative Assault Team) for campus quarantine.
1530: Local law enforcement and SWAT team arrives to contain any unauthorized excursions from the school.
1700: HIAT arrives on-scene
1800: HIAT completes construction of containment barriers around campus
2015: HIAT First Squad inserts into East hallway.
2030: HIAT Forward base is constructed in gymnasium. Computer technicians access computer network. Information regarding the human mission is uploaded to projector in auditorium. Technicians wire into intercom system, broadcast instructions every 5 minutes for HIAT forces to proceed to the auditorium to read the instructions for their mission.
2045: Technicians wire into school surveillance system, discover that quarantine Sector 4 is locked down with human survivors intact inside. Alien activity in Sectors 2 and 3 is intense.
2100: (Humans) You are inserted into the forward observation post inside the gymnasium to secure the Sector 4 survivors before they are killed by the alien insurgents, or (aliens) you are inserted into the alien heart in the courtyard to eliminate the survivors and/or HIAT forces in the gymnasium.

Features:
-Junior High School campus complete with gymnasium, cafeteria, classrooms, locker rooms, hall lockers, everything in a Junior High you'd expect.
-Interior and exterior map areas; access the roof of the school to get into the extensive ventilation system throughout the building, explore each of the classrooms, be instantly killed by the containment fields if you touch them, etc.
-Several working buttons; main office contains several buttons to override the quarantine doors. Be careful; you may end up release the alien horde into your own base or into the survivor zone. Aliens in survivor zone = instant alien win. Humans in survivor zone = instant human win.
-Plumbing system; toilets inside the building contain teleporters to warp dretches through them and into the plumbing system, allowing easy transportation to other sectors of the school. Counteracted with the "Sulfuric Acid Flush" available to humans at S2.
-Extensive ventilation system; aliens up to basilisk size can get into the ventilation system and access any room in the school or the roof/outside areas. Counteracted by "Chlorine Gas" available to humans at S2.

Each of the plumbing/ventilation counteractions is available at human S2, but can only be used once every 5 minutes. The effects last for 1 minute and then subside, take 4 minutes to recharge, then may be used again. They are unlimited use, aside from the 4 minute recharge inactivity for each one.

The primary reason I'm making a mission-based map is to have a better diversity with Tremulous maps. Right now, everything (or almost everything) is a kill everything map. Mission based maps add a whole new dimension of playability where teamwork is a must. In short, it's a twist to the current Tremulous formula.

Please comment on this idea. I would love to have feedback on it. Thank you.

-Phawksy

...ideas...are...flooding...my...brain...

Question; how many Tremulous players are underage? As in, not allowed to view semi-adult content?

I can get some nude cheerleader pictures and put up posters on the school bathroom walls...ooh! Idea!

EDIT:

Okay, I'm getting on Google to find some..."prospects"...

Hehehehehehehe...don't tell the parents... 8)

EDIT 2:

Any particular taste I should get? Asian? American? Small? Busty?

Help me out here. I'm appealing to the kids, folks!

Well, Ann, I could always use those blackmail photos from when I got you drunk that one time...remember that? You wouldn't want the entire Tremulous community to see those "images" would you now?

I mean, somebody might lose their lunch. Some might even send the photos in to National Geographic with the tagline "WE HAVE PROOF THAT THE YETI IS REAL!!!!!!!!!"

You wouldn't want that to be the case, would you?

Faux

A) I hardly give a damn what the Trem community at large or just about anyone else thinks about me; only a select few who's opinions, y'know, matter to me (Oz, other AoD folks, Hellion, Dracone, etc).

B) NO U! :P

Alright, so it's fine for me to post those drunken Bigfoot pictures of you on here?

Let me check the forum rules and see if I'll get banned for it...responding momentarily...

Aw...dammit...

Wait...these don't count as pornography, do they? I mean, she's naked, and hairy, but she's not doing anything...?

You sure, Dasprid? There's some intimate images, but it doesn't do anything...except making you vomit...

Indeed,  please amuse the lot of us.

The closest thing I've had to a drink in my life up to this point is beer-battered chicken, but hey, give it a shot, champ.

Hey, you're the one who looks at it in the mirror every morning. There's no reason why you should be indifferent to it being on the Internet instead of in your bush--I mean, on your body.

Yeah, cruel joke on my part. I was leaving Trem and felt I should go out with a bang, and I guess I did.

But, I'm still alive (to some peoples' demise).

There you go with the weird 'demise' thing again.

Anywho, since this is already a train-wreck of a thread:

Do you know if you're going to attempt to rebuild the wiped maps?

1) Yes, I went a little--okay, a lot--overboard about my exit from Tremulous.

2) Undoubtedly. I still have the blueprints for Caverna and Residential. Unfortunately, I can't get my GTK 1.5 installation compatible with Trem. The ZIP package with the build list and that stuff is gone from the server, and there's no alternate download location. If anybody can get me the ZIP package with game.xlink, default_build_menu.xml, entities.def, and default_shaderlist.txt, I'd be grateful. The broken link to that ZIP file is http://tremulous.sf.net/users/jex/radical/win32/1.5/radiant-1.5win32_files.zip which comes up with a 404 screen. Help?
