This was running through my head for a while after reading some of the posts in the trouble shooting section. I was just wondering what were the old days really like for tremulous, were they really clear of noobs, deconers, spammers, and abusive admins; or did everything go like it does now?

P.S. no flames please

"Back in the day," 90% of the users were all on Linux, were at least 18, and always had a good game. Now, games piss me off so much I'm usually done after one game.

Back in the day, none of the people who posted here played Tremulous. And that most players were using Linux is just nonsense. I don't exactly know if they were 'good old days', since the lack of players was really annoying. Even with all the brainless drones nowadays, it is better than it used to be. At least these days Tremulous gets the playing time it deserves.

I'd say immediately after the stand alone release was the best time. Increase of players with only a very slight increase in retards who were able to find trem. It went downhill after 1 or 2 months. The fact is I played on the bot server a few days ago and I found the bots on the team played less retarded than most players nowadays.
I’m busy. I’ll ignore you later.

Yeaa, nowadays it's sad to see how many idiots there are running around playing the game.  Admittedly, I wasn't here when trem began.  I joined about August of 06 and have been playing since then.  Trem was really my first FPS ever, and all of my skill I've gained just from playing it.

I do remember when I began, =USA= was a powerhouse, (With Maniac, Bug, etc...), I think...Killaz? was around.  There was some clan with a ridiculous number of members that everyone used to make fun of.  And then there was Zilla.  Heh, I was such a noob when I first began I didn't know the difference between the ping of euro servers and NA servers.  I played on Corbina, and that's where I got good.  I eventually found =USA= hanging around, and started playing with them, and managed to get in.  =USA= was the clan when I gained the bulk of my skill.  I learned how to scrim, I made a great friend (Who sadly doesn't play anymore.  =USA=*Einstein, for those of you who remember him), and I slowly moved up the ranks until after Mani quit I ended up inadvertently killing =USA= when I went to Zilla.  Those were the days of ICE, =USA=, Zilla and others.  I don't remember playing many public games and having them end up in pitiful 5-minute games because everyone was so nooby they deconned/etc..  Games were more intense, more fun, and there wasn't as much killwhoring as there is today.  The game was also simpler.  Good dodging/aim was a rarity, there were no "amazing" bases yet that were "unhoppable" or "anti-rant" etc...  It was just people playing for fun and getting better.

I do remember, after Zilla died and I took a little hiatus from trem, when I returned, the game was amazingly different.  It seemed as if it were an overnight change.  All the amazing players of old were scattered all over, in many different clans.  The only problem was that there were no dominant clans anymore.  Maybe NT|, mayybee.  But the first one was a bit unstable.  But, ever since then, n00bs who have come, made clans, let anyone in, and ended up having sucky clans have populated the clan scene lately.  It's not as much fun, and finding good scrims is near impossible again.  The only fun I have left in trem is the occasional public game (Only when I'm in a killwhoring mood, and not necessarily in a training mood) and scrims.

Bottom line is, I miss the old days dearly.  My days of =USA= and +Zilla were the best, to me that is.

I played trem for teh first time about 1 year ago (join date minus 2 months). I was one of those blocking, feeding noobs and enjoyed that status. Everything i said was greeted with a friendly FU nub, so i didn't really have a good old mtime lol. My best time is now, with all the [Z|R] members.

edit: come to think off, i created this forum account to apologize to lava and djpong for the grieving behavior of a friend of mine, with my nickname, but i was to shy and didn't do it lol.

Ahh the good old days where you can actually implement some strategy into the game, where you could have a conversation with the opposing team rather than the "OMG HaXX0rz!" "COCKSUCKER!" we sometime have.I miss em but the player base is more than it used to be then so that,s a good thing.

Ahh the lost and stolen golden days.

When wine flowed like river.

The fruits ample and the flowers blossom merrily.

The sky so blue and the cloud silver.

Oh wait, I wasn't there when it happened.

I still reminisce about the days after Tremulous' standalone release, where the player population surged upwards with the approach and appearance of the '06 summer holiday's.  You can never replace the likes the Tree Squirrel, Nocomputer, Belier, and Nooblerbot.  :(

I consider those names not even footnotes in Tremulous' history, with the sad exception of Belier, who actually managed to be some kind of 'pest' for a while  :x

I think you guys all remember me very well. I changed my name about three thousand times, and switched clans three thousand times. Well, back on topic.

Ahh yes, how I do remember the young days of Tremulous. I was recommended by my cousin, and I played a few games with them. I played it the next Friday it came out. After about a few days I got the hang of it and it became my new addiction. Back then it was very nice. No noobs, deconners, or just plain very skilled players. I remember seeing Orc, and young SGA. The original map rotation was cool, until they started making new maps and I have to download them. But overall, I do miss the younger days of Tremulous, Beer Garden was the place to be. Admins like Shafe and [EVIL]Uknown.

@Bull
And yes, how I do remember =USA=, but you never mentioned me? Screen? (As one of my thousands of names.) Bull and I were very close up to Maniac's departure. Bug was still missing at the time due to grades, and Daenyth was elected new leader. Every day I saw the clan die little by little, but it was growing fast. Members leaving, Einstein went missing, and we were nothing but a dead clan. On VERY rare occasions, would we scrim Zilla. It would be Daenyth, Bull, Dusty, and Screen. We would ALWAYS lose, but it was fun. But after about a month, I got tired of this clan, and saw no future for it. After a VERY long forum post, just like this, I confirmed my departure from the =USA= clan. I think Bull and I were very close to leaving at the same time, and we both joined Zilla. I miss those days.

Now, Tremulous is not even close to what it use to be. Full servers, hackers, deconners, and all those crap ruins the game. I rarely even go 1 game anymore because of all this mischief. I miss the old clans, not all these new clans that have retarded names. Hopefully, 1.2 will catch my interest, because I'm extremely bored now, and need something to do.

Being bored with the game usually is because people have played it way to much.
Hackers? in my 2 years, i've only seen +/- 4.
Deconners? Ya, but long live admins. If there are no admins on, prepare the votekick bind.
Full servers? Ya, having to look for a server that is accesible is sooo hard. There's hardly any joinable server here >>>>>Sarcasm<<<<<<

a voteick bind won't help you that much. too many different players.

Ah the old times...When you knew almost everyone who was on at that moment, when I didn't have admin rights (sad bit), when tremulous was much funner!

I remember back in the good ole days when aliens and humans got along and we all sat around and taught underwater basket weaving to the noobs..
Sure it was an uphill walk both ways but with our flashlights riding our flying aliens (which were later removed from the game entirely) we could load up a server and play a game of checkers or two.

The forums used to be awesome.. we all used to wear hats and post the same questions and comments over and over again and we liked it. And the only people that developed the game where the developers, which actually hung around a bit now and again.

Yup.. those were the days.

good old days dont exist its just your memory playing tricks on you because you remember more good experiences than bad experiences and youre too retarded to compensate for this by actually stepping back and trying to remember all the lame times as well.

Nah, people just enjoy whining about how it's all gone to pot nowadays because they're all a bunch of insufferable malcontents who'd much rather complain than actually fix a problem, extending this philosophy to the point that when there aren't any problems they create some purely so they can complain about them.
