Problem running Benmachine's Mod
« on: October 25, 2007, 09:17:48 pm »
I can host the server without any problems but after 8 minutes tremded.exe (TJW's) shuts itself down. We have tested it multiple times and we can't find a pattern as to why it shuts down. We have run Arcade and Stock Trem in the past and those worked fine without a problem. I've made a screen of the error message and will post as much data as I can. Maybe someone here can point me into the right direction as to why it doesn't seems to keep itself running.

OS: Windows
Mod: Benmachine's mod v.022
Server: (Cebt)Milking Grounds
Tremded.exe from TJW
Data.pk3, svm.pk3 and game.qvm from Benmachine's mod

If you need more information please ask and I'll try to provide it.

I would have done that but the problem is as I'm ingame an error message comes up saying there is a problem found in tremded.exe. At that point on I can't access the console anymore. If I'm at the console when it happens it also says there is a error in tremded.exe and then everything just shuts down. I can't access the console at the moment the problem comes up.

So far I only know that games.txt saves all data from all games but even there I can't find anything about a error only a ShutdownGame:. Players ingame reported that their game freezes just like you have 999 ping. The way it seems to me is that it only gives a shutdowngame as an error message in the console. Which is kinda logical because the problem was in the tremded.exe and not caused ingame by a bug of some sort in ,for example, the game.qvm.

EDIT:
The server runs fine without any players in it (for over 30 minutes now).

why do you use tremded.exe instead of "tremulous.exe +set dedicated"? Isn't this the way it is described in all howtos around here?

tremded.exe +set dedicated 2 +set fs_game benmachine +exec server.cfg +set net_port *****. This is because Windows users need to point to there tremded.exe in order to get a server working. Atleast that is what I thought, correct me if I'm wrong though.

Instead of tremded.exe at the beginning? I'll try that and see if it stays online then. Haven't had this problem on my other servers which ran fine with only tremded.exe infront. (EDIT: Now it won't even load the server)

Also made a screen of how the console looks like so you can get a better understanding of what I mean. I only get this when I'm playing in the server for a longer time (8-10 minutes). I can run the server just fine and even play on it. (I have a dutch version of Windows):

Then please try the same line from a command prompt.
There must be a way to get a real error-msg, even with windows.

And why would it not even start the server? There must be some error-msg.

Without any error-msgs no one can help you.

Tried:

s/"tremded.exe"/"tremulous.exe" +set dedicated 2 +set fs_game benmachine +exec server.cfg +set net_port *****-> Couldn't recognize command s/

tremded.exe +set dedicated 2 +set fs_game benmachine +exec server.cfg +set net_port ***** -> Server runs fine but falls out after a while and couldn't find error message due to problem showed in screenshot#2

tremulous.exe +set dedicated 2 +set fs_game benmachine +exec server.cfg +set net_port ***** ->

Answer : Your game.qvm and tremded.exe files are not compatible with each other. You probably got a custom game.qvm from somewhere, or you failed to download an advanced tremded.exe. See Section IV, Part 2 for information on where to get a guaranteed-compatible pair of game.qvm and tremded.exe. You also might have installed them in the wrong place. See Section IV, Part 3 for the right places to install these files.

It seems to me that the tremded.exe from JTW isn't compatible with the game.qvm from Benmachine's Mod. I'll try to find the right tremded.exe for windows to run the mod.

Thank you for your effort Caveman. I'll try to find the right tremded.exe or if that won't work send a private message to ben or dodo and ask them how they got it working.

benmachine's mod is based on SVN. tremulous.exe is 1.1.0 QVM only. So no, that's NOT the problem. :roll:

FX-Arch, TJW's tremded is SVN823. That's still way too old for benmachine's mod.
If my answer to your problem doesn't seem helpful, it means I won't help you until you show some effort to fix your problem yourself!
1.2.0 release's been delayed for 5:48:00 already because of stupid questions.

Ah ok. So that is why the tremded.exe and game.qvm aren't compatible. Well I don't think I have enough computer experience to compile one myself so I'll continue my search on the forums  :P Not going to give up though as I'm sure I can get it to work somehow.

EDIT: http://www.mercenariesguild.net/patches/?getfile=204 should be sufficient only it's a .patch file and my guess is it's pretty hard to do it in windows instead of linux.

No, this is actually my bad. My mod crashes regularly with a floating point excpetion.
It's probably just me being stupid, but the whole thing is such a train wreck of a mod that I never bothered to fix it.
I'm pretty sure my mod is designed to work with tjw's QVM.

Well I'll try to get one with a higher SVN to test it out.
Never giving up though till I get it running properly.
We really liked your mod as it made tremulous more fun and a bit less serious :P
Seeing as there aren't many servers running your mod I'll keep trying to host it properly.
Even if it is due to some bugs  :P

Hey, guys, sorry if this is a n00b question, but I've tried to make the mod work myself, and I got a message like this:
