Bit problems
« on: October 31, 2007, 04:36:36 am »
Ok, I found that I can play trem when I have my bit settings at 16 bit and 24 bit, but when ever I try and play trem at 32 bit it doesn't work, and its really annoying to have to switch bit every time I want to play trem, so is there a way to fix this so I can play in 32 bit?

Sorry, but I don't support any kind of "Starter Edition" as this "Windows XP Pro SE" is just a castrated version of "Windows Home".

LC that is total BS and you know it.
You did check out what "SE" is, right?
It is only good for light office work and some surfing...

SE means Second Edition...
Windows XP Professional Second Edition is what I have and use. And Home sucks.

hum? You got some links to a site from Microsoft for that?

XP-SE: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/newsroom/winxp/WinXPStarterFS.mspx

"Second Edition" was used in conjunction with Windows98 but never after that ,)

a) As you can clearly see it is NOT SE, it is Service Pack 2, a whole different story :)

b)
- find your icon / menu entry for tremulous, right click, select properties, mark field target, press ctrl-c

- go to "start" select run, enter "cmd", right click, select paste, press enter, the game should start now, if not, copy & past the error here.

- try to play, if the game crashes you'll now have the error-message you'll paste here.

It's not that hard.

As Caveman said, right-click on your icon/shortcut for Tremulous, select properties, and copy (CRTL+A, CRTL+C will select everything and copy it, CRTL+V for pasting) the stuff in the "Target" field.
After that, open up the command prompt:  Start Menu ->  Run... -> type in "Cmd" and press Enter.  After that, paste the stuff from "Target" in and press Enter.  That should give you the error message you'll need so anybody can do a lick to help you.

// Compressed jpeg's are ugly.  Why the hell do people use them?

Edit: Now that I think of it, CRTL+V doesn't work in the command prompt, if I remember right.  Right-click the window and do paste from there.  My mistake.

That is not your problem.
The problem is that you
a) seem to think you know something whereas you actually know shit.
b) that you do not do what you were told.
c) that you postet a screenshot of the Tremulos Console when you were asked for the output of the cmd-console, AFTER it crashed as you described in your first post.
d) that I have enough of this thread, maybe someone else cares enough to walk you through the first few steps of windows' 101

I thought admins were supposed to be patient? Meh, what would I know?

Does the ingame console have any errors, Ame?

Edit: Also, what would your system specs be? What graphics card? Maybe your graphics card isn't 32 bit. :P

I'd be honestly floored if he didn't have a 32-bit capable card.  Besides that, he makes it sound like he can run about everything besides Tremulous just dandy in 32-bit.

On Windows, when you run
Code: [Select]
X:\some\path\tremulous.exe
from outside the Tremulous installation directory, it doesn't work. This works:
Code: [Select]
cd X:\some\path
tremulous

What error?
The missing default.cfg that shows up in the _Tremulous-console_?

That is sooo unimportant.
Guess why I asked after the error from the cmd-console?

Ghost, how about you take over?
Instead of blabbing you could have given him a better solution to his problem.

The important thing is he did exactly what you told him to do. You said copy&paste the target and he did it. But that doesn't work without changing directory first which you did NOT say!

There's absolutely no difference between cmd and Tremulous console output except that Tremulous console doesn't stay open after Tremulous "successfully" quits.

Being hostile to clueless noobs is a good thing as long as you're not a jerk and understand the difference between ignorant lazyness and simple lack of knowledge.

Here we go.
Did you look at his screenshot?
What do you see?
riiiiight, the Tremulous.console, which you admitted does not stay open after trem quits/crashes.

What can we deduce from this?

That he did not do as he was told.

If you just want to get off a cheap shot, try again. Preferably in another thread where your unwillingness to help is not so obvious.

I don't understand. This screen closes after a crash, you say? The screenshot shows a fatal error (could not load default.cfg, often the result of running an executable which can't find data-1.1.0.pk3), which I know for a fact leads to the immediate shutdown of the client. If indeed the tremulous console does not stay open after a crash, then how did he acquire that screenshot, which clearly shows the output of a crashing client?

I'm not trying to attack you here but I see a contradiction and I think it needs clarification.

Ben, that is exactly what I mean.
The screenshot should not have been possible as per ghost's statement.

"Successfully" in my message means it doesn't crash before you get at least into menu. Which is not the case of missing default.cfg.

you guys need to stop arguing, your getting on my nerves really fast.

And the game didnt launch at all, the consel just poped open with the error, i never got into the game at all. Which I figured was because the directories were wrong. I would have tried again but it was 1 in the morning or whenever it was and i was tired and had school today so I went to sleep after i posted that screen shot.

Caveman, Idc if your a admin or a guy who gets kicks from calling ppl noobs and being a jerk to them. Do not get in my face and start calling me names and shit because Im not going to put up with it and I will get up in your face and do the exact same shit to you. Im not a noob, and I do know "something" about windows. I have had my own computer since I was 7 and if I really felt like it I could reprogram the entire tremulous game to be a porno. Im on here for support, not to have some guy who has issues and takes them out on anyone he can with each and every chance he gets call me names and w.e. If you dont want to help thats great, I dont want help from someone who has issues like yourself anyways.

Now, Ghost, I didnt quite understand what you said about changing the directories and w.e with the
Code: [Select]
X:\some\path\tremulous.exe
and
Code: [Select]
cd X:\some\path
tremulous

Can you please explain that a little more?

EDIT:
Here are all my specs ppl
