Releasing your maps
« on: November 09, 2007, 08:53:32 am »
Since this is the Level Review & Released forum its purpose is clear.
It is meant for releases of maps made by the community for general use in tremulous.

As such there are three distinct stages of release.
  • Alpha

Testing layout and ideas. Do not release these maps here. If you are having trouble with maps in this stage look around the Mapping Forum.
  • Beta

Betas are nearly finished maps which can be released here, where some experienced players outside of your own maptesters can respond to your creation and give tips on what can be improved, detect bugs and further.
  • Final

Final stage maps, ready maps, finished maps. There is no agreed term for a map which is complete. But all of these are valid for release here.

  • Make sure no map in any stage is reliant on other maps for its textures or sounds.
  • In the beta and final stages the .pk3 should have a working and up-to-date arena file containing the current versionnumber, appropriate 'long name' and type tremulous.
  • It is advised to provide some sample screenshots and a description with these. This would boost interest and willingness to play the map among players.

Things you should not release here are.
  • Alpha stage maps.
  • Maps which are obviously crap. And if you cannot identify what is obviously crap then don't release your map.
  • Maps not in the .pk3 layout. This means no .bsp or .map releases.
  • Maps made for few people or groups with neglible gameplay worthiness. Or in other words, maps that are not made for the entire community.
  • Maps that do not contains camera spawns, regular spawns or lighting
  • Request to find maps. There is a full list in another sticky in this forum.
Alternatively you can download maps from the Mercenaries Guild Download Center.

Do note that you may be bashed and flamed from all sides if you release work which doesn't show any work going into it. Box maps, unplayable maps, severely glitched maps are examples of this. These will all get you to be yelled at. And the moderators don't care.

And If I post my map then post the .pk3 later would that be ok?
On the bright side, it takes one to know one, ReapDaWrapper.

But the pk3 contains your map. Unless you mean creating a topic about your map, then you should hold off on that, and just tease us with screenshots in this topic.

Also:
Things you should not release here are.
  • Maps not in the .pk3 layout. This means no .bsp or .map releases.
