HUD indicator for spawns & OM/reactor
« on: May 12, 2006, 09:41:08 pm »
Something I always find my self wishing for are HUD indicators for the number of spawns my team currently has, and the status of the overmind/reactor. It is beyond annoying to try to evolve as an alien and find you have no OM. :O   Ideally your teammates would relay building information consistently, but we all know that is a pipe dream on pub servers.  D: Even if it was only the builder classes that got this information, it would be a huge help.

And yes, I know spawn count is on the player list, buts thats not good enough.

Yes, it would be fantastic if builders had this information.

I think this info is useful to everyone, not just builders ... but yes it does builders the most good. Hovever, what if there are no builders and nobody knows that spawns are needed ? Thus, everyone should have the hud (but should have the option to disable it)

I think it should be an option you can turn on or off. I don't see how it would damage gameplay in any way, I think it would only improve gameply and motivate more people to work as a team. maybe even a small health meter for the reacter/OM so you know how much hp it has left at any time. that way somone that is across the map away from base can decide if threat would be enough to burn rubber straight to base.

Yes, very good idea, should be implemented in the next Trem release. Number of spawns and the health of the OverMind/Reactor can be indeed a big help and motivation.

Also an indicator where your OM is would be nice, for those sudden unplanned base moves :D

I agree. A indicator of OM/human main generator is mostly needed. About health, etc.. I dont like.

reactor and om status are definite pluses.  spawn status is also a good thing, but maybe irrelevant during some parts of the game.  it would be nice if it was a thing you could toggle on and off.
not so sure it would be good to have a om/reactor direction indicator.  for aliens, this is somewhat unnecessary in many circumstances, because the overmind isn't necessarily your base location.  makes more sense for humans.
the best thing, however, would be a signal that pulses whenever a structure takes damage, and indicates the direction.  like a pulsing arrow in the radar section.

What about a 'query' bind of some kind?

In theory any alien should be able to 'ask' the overmind what's up.  So you hit the 'q' key and you get a message:

S - 2, T - 10, Tr - 0, H - 0, (etc.)

Perhaps humans should require the helmet and maybe defense computer to query this info.  Otherwise ask a builder...
ah, that wasn't a tyrant you killed, it was just a baby tyrant.

Would it be out of the question to display anything on the C-Kit?
