Get trem working on windoze

Hey up,

I was wondering if there are any special requirements to get trem working on windoze XP boxes, one of my mates tried it and it crashes when going to "play" or whatever. I also tried it on another friends laptop and the same thing... i had to hard reset the mofo.

Are we missing some additional proggie/driver to get it working? All their vid software is up to date and they both have better PC's. It works fine for me on Linux and i dont know what their problem is.

Cheers :)

troubleshooting will be difficult without more info than "it crashes".

My guess would be video drivers/card.

benmachine

a LOT of people find that the graphics drivers that came with their computer (from Microsoft) don't work, instead they need drivers downloaded directly from their vendor's website (e.g. www.nvidia.com if you have an NVIDIA card)

Yeah, vid card drivers was my first choice also. My friends are pretty computer savvy (an electrical engineer and an MCSE) and all that but it turns out at least one of them didnt have good drivers installed.. feckin windoze.. so it looks like we're good to go.

Thanks for the heads up, I just thought i was missing something :)

Clearly it's the operating system's fault that you have to install 3d drivers before 3d applications will work.

crazytigger

WTF?! .. yes is fuckin is... when games like UT run fine, video playback is operational and all things other than trem work fine with 3D.

Dont insult my intelligence by saying "oh install the drivers" ... FFS I KNOW!

Anyway it works for one of my mates now so thats all good.

Thanks for your help

UT and most other things on Windoze use Direct3D. Crappy drivers from Microsoft include full Direct3D support but crippled OpenGL. Guess what, Trem/Q3 is crossplatform, developed mainly on Linux, so it uses OpenGL.

MCSE certificate isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
If my answer to your problem doesn't seem helpful, it means I won't help you until you show some effort to fix your problem yourself!
1.2.0 release's been delayed for 5:48:00 already because of stupid questions.

Don't come here and expecting us to be awed by a certificate.
You'd be surprised how many here hold some.

Also don't make a fool out of yourself and tell us what can't be the problem when you have absolutely no clue.

MCSE is only good for telling someone you spent money to get registered as Solitair-Expert.

Oh, and before you start... I hold the MCSE and CNA prolly before you even knew what those letter stand for.

if your friends use windoze (zzzz....)
then they can't be all that computer savvy.
no offense to them though

I have an MCSE, its covered in crap though, guess what I use it for? ;P

I consider myself officially qualified by MS to sell their products. I also consider myself a very high level expert in checking checkboxes and understanding proprietary concepts that were at least to some degree obsolete before I started studying for them.  Having learned a bit about them through studying for the MCSE, I find I have too much of a conscience to actually try to help sell their stuff. :)

It really bugged the hell out of me that I read a couple books about active directory and didn't learn a damn thing about LDAP.  What a waste of time.  And now their AD implementation has changed, which means that all I learned is at best questionably accurate.  They would probably have good products if they bothered to stick with ANY real standard.

I understand the problem that you are having though.

I learned soooo much with my MCSE and subsequent windows experience that I now run only Linux boxes at home, except for the ancient laptop my wife refuses to part with or let me touch due to here being technophobic, and comfortable with it.

Searching?
Pfffft, don't think you are that important.
It's just that your posts have a certain stench about them.

Edit:
At least I know my way around my cave, or to bring it back OT, I know my OSes, do you?
