Thanatos' Tremulous Screenshots
« on: November 27, 2007, 03:16:07 am »
Feel free to post your own here, creative criticism, and mad props. These are just the ones I have had the chance to play with so far, that I took yesterday.

This one implies spawn rapage.

Gotta watch for goons and shit...

It's hard to be a Basilisk.

Those humans aren't getting THIS base.

This is SPECIAL grass, it will blow your mind!

2 races, one goal: Getting Soda out of a giant machine.

DRAGOON RIDERS GO!!! (Spider Riders allusion).

Bruce Willis was dead the whole time!!!

And finally, the best way to stay away from the big aliens while still getting to the small ones.

Nice!

I like the motion blurs and added effects.

I don't know why, but the Marauder outside the Alien base in Tremor is my favorite.

Had the idea for the basilisk picture in Tremor because with /r_lightmap 1 on you get huge grey areas on the map, so i isolated the lisk and the crate, and replaced the entire grey mass with clouds that lighten toward the top-left. Of course, its more complicated than that, but thats all it is.
Most of the pictures have Surface Blur, masked Motion and Radial Blurring, and Noise added to give them that surreal edge. Masking the area of focus and blurring everything else adds movement to the image, and I only cared to go through that entire process thoroughly with my favorite shots (the dretch on the ledge, and the human shooting through the glass).

Please if posting screenshots for esthetetical rather than educational purposes, please use full anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering.

Thank you.

Fixed that for you.  Aside from the lisk picture (messing with \r_lightmap 1), how do you put "effort and forethought" into taking a screenshot?  Does not compute unless these screenies were, y'know, planned with friends or something.
@Thanatos: I enjoy the pic with the floaty dretch (coupled with an equally floaty shadow), Death. ;D

Actually Ann, I was one of the "actors" in those shots; and yeah, they were pretty much planned out.  Thanatos had some ideas for interesting shots in various maps, and we'd try a couple others while we were there (the lisk clinging to the glass was my idea in fact, and I'm glad to see it came out well).

Still life machinima :>

What are the CVARs for that? I took these with my normal res and settings, and my FPS is impractically high ATM.

You can change AA and AF settings from your video card's control panel. As for cvars, just start trying things that begin with /cg_ or /r_

Press the <TAB> button after typing in a string in the console, and it will give you a list of CVAR's that begin with that string. I'll use that if I want to know the cg_ or r_ CVAR's, but most of them are probably outdated and will make my hard drive asplode...

Oops, forgot to mention that :)
Surprisingly, a lot of them aren't that outdated. Some do very interesting things, and others don't appear to do anything at all. For me it was just trial and error, and nothing I ever changed was "unfixable."

All the good stuff is "cheat protected"... Also, I am surprised that r_fullbright 1 along with r_lightmap 1 doesn't give me a pure white screen... Shouldn't it?

Thank you, that one was the one that got the greatest amount of radial blurring, to simulate a dretch's "tunnel vision".

They looked too good to not have been planned out, so I assumed they were (unless you think he just happened to catch sight of a human riding a goon in-game :P). I didn't like the edits he made to them so much as I just liked the composition of the shots themselves.

Around 2-3AM just about every night, the people on the servers I hang around start goofing off and doing stuff like that.  Is it really that rare an occurrence elsewhere?  Weird.

Man, I need to play on those servers more often. I've never been able to get anyone to do anything that wasn't straight-up KILLKILLKILL, and believe me, I've tried.

Hey Thanatos, perhaps you can take those pictures, and their captions, and create a Tremulous Motivational Challenge thread?  To see what I mean, check the FreeSpace Motivational Challenge thread (some cool stuff there)... I think those shots & captions would be pretty sweet.  Just don't forget to save the final picture to www.tinypic.com or another image hosting site, as they get deleted otherwise.
