What to download?
« on: November 27, 2007, 08:31:13 pm »
I ask this question because i been away from tremulous since i reformatted. Now i want to return but i want to know which is the best client or svn or what ever its called now?

I remeber some clients had the download already set, some clients had the extra game tab in the server list.

Thank you and hope to join trem again :D

Well first off, go to http://www.tremulous.net/files and download the standalone release Version 1.1.0 for your operating system and install. The go to http://trem.tjw.org/backport, click on your operating system, and download the .exe file and with it replace the tremulous client you got from this site. If on mac go here -> http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/games/action_adventure/tremulous.html. You don't have to go to trem.tjw.org if on a mac since the client with a GUID is already in that one. (once you start up tremulous, i suggest bringing down console (~ key) and typing /cl_guidServUniq 1 to prevent your GUID for safety.

For maps you can go to http://www.mercenariesguild.net/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,35/lang,en/ and download any of the maps there, i suggest you download the latest versions only, as some maps are done so that the earlier versions load if the later version is playing.

Hope this helps

Also, lots of servers have http downloads of some sort set up.  Downloading all those maps could be painful, but it you just wait until a server loads one up, chances are you're client will download the map pretty quickly the first time you see it.

Well, the only maps played a lot are prob UTCS (sp?) and bunker. Most servers running maps like volcano will prob be empty (no offence to the map devs, but custom maps aren't played that much)

Which is mostly the fault of people not having the tjw client and turning downloads on. The fact that doing anything that requires a download cuts your server's playercount down to nothing means you're stuck with just stock maps.
