Being an alien: How to damage humans
« on: December 10, 2007, 10:04:01 am »
So you only have to be near them? Or do you need to push the attack button? The manual says "contact". I am confused by that.

Needless to say, I am new. Good game btw.

Dretchs (lowest attack class alien) only needs to touch humans to do damage (Aim for the head does more damage). But all other aliens require you to press left/right mouse for primary/secondary attack.

Thanks. So for "headshots" as a Dretch you only need to at their feet and "look" at their heads?

Correct.  There's a "sweet spot" where your range out to the target means you'll hit the head area first as you approach; that takes some time to learn.  But generally just looking about 2-3 feet above the human's head will do the trick from the ground.

Yeah.. as Roc just stated... this applys to any attack from aliens to humans.. for example.. a footbite to a human does about 19 damage.. yet a headbite to a helmetless human does 94

Exactly :>  A favorite pastime of mine is dretching battlesuits from the ceiling of the hallway in ATCS; their added height puts them just within range (though it's sometimes easier from the walls instead), and they're usually too busy looking at the floor and not up.  Helps when there's others swarming around too.

Actually, the hitbox size for battlesuits is the same as a regular human: their "head" is actually around the mid-chest of the model.

Hmm.. learn something new every day.  That'll teach me to still have not loaded up the bboxes and walked around looking at things :P

Some servers modify the bbox so that it matches the model, but stock trem doesn't (atm)
