Jetpack noise idea?
« on: December 10, 2007, 07:42:10 pm »
Screaming would be fucking obnoxious. It serves no purpose, and it would just be irritating (see also: jetpack noise). At least a cvar to control it would be nice.

How about, have the jetpack make a lower-pitched noise, sort of like being inside a large Jetliner, except maybe a bit different.

I like the idea. I think (at least for my ears it's true) that the current sound and pitch of the jetpack is blurring out every other sound which is quite disturbing at times and I think it's not an intended feature of the jet to make you deaf for dretch noises and such... It'd be better if it were lower and generally less loud. ;)

As much as I utterly despise the jetpack's sound, you have to admit it sounds exactly like what it's supposed to: a jetpack.

I hate it so annoying cant hear important things eg tyrants rushing. Though i sovled it in a simple mod I just reduced the volume of the sound files to almost nothing now they are not a problem :P.

Can you pop your mod up to MediaFire so we can download it?  (If you create an account there [not necessary], you can track how many downloads you get, too.)

I think that jettards will be jettards no matter what sound it gives out and a less annoying sound would at least make normal players more comfortable on the rare occasion they'd use a jetpack, but more importantly: it would be less annoying when jettards are around you even if you yourself don't use the jet.  ::)

I don't think that we should break the tendecy of trem sounds sounding 'real' with the jet's sound ;) - also a real jetpack sounds eardrumbreakingly loud (check youtube for jetpack videos) a sound that real I guess we absolutely

Ahh...i dont think you want my mod.
Its not just jetpacks i changed eg free battlesuits/chaingun etc its a 'Silly Mod'. You can change Jetpack sound yourself though its as easy as pie just go into the data pk3 copy the jet pack sounds then remake the folders
(C:\Program Files\Tremulous\base\data-1.1.0.pk3\sound\upgrades\jetpack\) Thats where jetpack sounds are
Make a new pk3 call it jetpacksilent or something.
Then in the pk3 youll need sound\upgrades\jetpack and in that folder youll want the modified sounds. Then put the pk3 in ur trem base folder. Note: thatll only work in servers you create or unpure ones.
But if you REALLY want my mod its avalible here: http://files.filefront.com/K66Modpk3/;9199540;/fileinfo.html (just goto your trem folder create a new folder in there call it 'K66Mod' and put the pk3 in there. Then when you go ingame itll show up in mods menu)
(I use filefront(It Tracks downloads too))

AFAIK, if you modify the .pk3 you will be unable to play on pure servers.

Capt'n Obvious to the rescue. Also he just said that it is his mod. Not a pure trem solution...

Sorry, I missed the part where he said it was for a mod. I saw him tell people to edit the /base/data-1.1.0.pk3 and figured that he didn't know what he was up to ;P

Yes, but it also deletes files not used in a certain amount of time... I don't like that.  >:(  MediaFire doesn't... yet.  :/

EDIT:  Here ya go: K66's modified jetpack sounds for Tremulous - just the jetpack sounds, nothing else.

i have a good idea maybe make the jet pack noce only when you are close to it or under it this way it still sounds like a jetpack just doesn't annoy everyone in sight of it I saw a admin go crazy   from the jet pack sound he kicked everyone with jet packs or tked them.

That's an admin that shouldn't be... jetpacks are part of the game, and they are pretty vital unless you have BSuits.  :/

But, if some servers would pick up K66's modded jet sounds, it'd be nice.
