minor balance tweak?

As outrageous it might sound in the topic name this is a really minor change that just might modify the balance between as1 vs hs1 to a better one. (I even have a little idea for as2 vs hs2 too but that is not that much well thought out...)

Here and there I often see players stating that humans in stage 1 are generally much weaker than aliens. This is true, but the gap is not that significant as it's often stated and most of the wild ideas would do more damage to the balance than good. My idea is simple, yet it might give that extra missing little punch to the human team they'd need. The idea is to give the rifle a clip size of 40 instead of 30. This would make humans reload rarer, thus giving them the extra one second they would need to kill the running goon/mara and generally give humans a better chance of killing a goon on a server that is not oversized, meaning that there is no bulletspam. (20+ players on most maps are ridiculous IMHO...) Rest of the guns are good the way they are.

The other idea might be a slightly bigger adv. mara zap for as2.  Or maybe less armour protection against it so aliens would have a little more chance of killing of those nasty pulsespammers and still survive the hit and run attack on them. (I thought of this as I often heard this one too: as2 is weaker than hs2 wich is even more true than the first block of this post.)

If you like/don't like the idea pls state why you think that, not just state that it sucks or there was no point in makeing this thread.

80% of the time you are fine with a clip of 30, as long as you are smart with not spamming the gun, and you fire accurately.

This would serve to make good human players better, and bad players will still spam out their clip and miss anyway.

I can find no fault with this suggestion :(

As Daenyth stated, good player will have an extra kick (on both sides) and bad players don't matter anyways.

They matter. They give fast stage ups for the team which has less of them. They give aliens goons while you are in alien base trying to kill eggs. They fire and miss all their bullets while aiming at a goon they fed up to 9+3 evos... :angel:


I actually seen this thing work on atomreaktor#2 but there are other things modded too so it doesn't really show clear statistics of its effects on balance. (I've been thinking on this much earlyer than visiting atomreaktor#2, but still, that shows that someone thought of this before me...) So I don't really deserve the credit for this idea. - I meant the 40 round clip for the rifle. Only the mara zap is genuinely mine.

So I'm just opening a debate about this being a good thing to include in an official trem or at least to give ideas for other mods or to find out in which way this would ruin balance.

That extra 10 bullets would let me spam the walls some more...*drools*

Anyway back on topic, I agree about giving a few more bullets to the rifle, as there are many occasions where they would have saved my own life or someone else. However, I don't agree with the 10 bullets, as that amounts to about the same damage as the goon has hp. I'd say have the rifle stocked with 35 bullets for balances sake.

The small clipsize is what makes the rifle a free weapon. I think making it any larger runs the risk of making some of the more expensive weapons redundant, and also makes it much more difficult to be a dretch (since against the best humans those two seconds are your only chance)

against the best humans that two seconds is about you try to catch them because they'd dodge you as easy as they'd do with a full clip ::)
