NoBuild-Shader?
« on: May 17, 2006, 07:31:50 pm »
Hi all,

balancing derelictb I wanted to prevent anyone building stuff on the railings in human and alien bases. I used the "NoBuild" shader to enclose the rails but it is still possible to build turrets and stuff on them. :(

Here is a shot of my placement:

How do have to place it to get it working?

Thanks for your help,
Danny

I asked Timbo about it...

[16:25:19] <OverFlow> and if I cover an area with a 'no build' covered brush... no one should be able to build inside correct?
[16:26:05] <Timbo> ....may....... be....
[16:26:28] <OverFlow> cause it doesnt seem to <.<
[16:27:19] <Timbo> are you using custinfoparms and all that crap?
[16:27:36] <OverFlow> eh?
[16:27:51] <OverFlow> common-trem/nobuild
[16:28:10] <Timbo> yeah, but you need to build with a custinfoparms thingy too
[16:28:17] <OverFlow> :o
[16:28:19] <Timbo> unless you use a patched q3map
[16:28:23] <OverFlow> nope

so I have no idea what anything he says means... anybody help? <.<

NoBuild-Shader?

Ok,

I guess I understand now. I already wondered about the q3map2 log messages saying "Unknown Surface Parm: NoBuild" etc...

So the compiler just ignores the nobuild shaders and we need a modified version of q3map2 where the functionality is implemented!

But where to get? Does it even exist or are these shaders just for decoration?

Just add '-custinfoparms' to your compile commandline.

If this doesn't work it's probably OverFlow's fault.  8)

You just add -custinfoparms to the q3map2 command line in the BSP stage, there is a custinfoparms.txt inside the scripts folder in the data pak, you don't even need to extract it though.

dumdidum... jex beat me to it

Okay, two final things about that nobuild shader:

1. It seems that the nobuild brush has to be big enough to enclose the whole buildable that is to be prevented.

2. If you are standing in the nobuild brush you cannot even open the build menu. Bug or feature?
If you move outside the brush you can open the menu again but still cannot build inside the brush (as expected).

Oh that sounds easy enough <.<

I didn't want to ask further and incur the rath of the tumbobinator.
