I like it, because the game forces you to switch 'lanes'.
I've completed it one my first (ok, i'll be honest. Second time. I died the first time because I was curious what the red stuff did  ) try.
I personally would think adding difficulty levels to the game might make it more fun to play. The current course is a bit to easy, seeing how you get a very long narrow hall before it ultimately closes. Maybe lower the size of the explosion per difficulty or make the 'walls' thicker.

Anyway, Great job. Hope you get nominated

Make the charge a bit shorter, or a smaller explosion by releasing it earlier (maybe in stages?). And add something in to aim for bonuspoints instead of just surviving. Maybe those red thingies caught in an explosion.

the course is somewhat defined, but has random paramters, so it is different every time.

sprites now have 3 frames of animation, there are sound effects if you have java 1.5. also source.

An ok game, i wish you could move around (up and down as well) and just shoot a shot that goes the whole length of the screen and not have to charge it.
