So I'm getting a copy of FPS Creator from a friend of mine.
« on: December 29, 2007, 09:25:04 pm »
And I am aiming to hack and import the Tremulous models into it and single-handedly release either Tremulous 1.2 or Tremulous-The Loner Missions (single player standalone mode).

Who's excited?

-.-

FPS Creator isn't that great. I got a trial a while ago. The single player trial would be cool, but, that's if you get Trem models into the program.

Good luck.

Cool.

Any chance I could get some help to do some pk3 haxxing?

BTW, the version I'm getting is the full thing. He's gotten tired of it and moved on to coding, so he's giving me his disc.

Right... You're going to make an awesome game that requires 10k polies to render a box ( no joke. It's THAT badly optimized)

If you're talking about FPSC, then I understand you.

I've been messing around in it, and the thing takes 45 minutes to compile a test level with a spawn, 4 walls, light, and lightswitch. Nothing else. And the stupid thing crashes while "optimizing the game universe".

Any ideas?

No. It's a well known fact that it's optimization fails and that it's capped at 30fps anyway. Even TGC admit it. Just learn a language.

I guess I'll learn something along the lines of GML (Game Maker Language, GM can be found here) since that's really easy, fairly powerful, and extendable.

Game Maker is some what easy that is true, but only if you want 2d, 3d gets troublesome. Also you probably wont use GML as most of it has buttons which are quicker to use. Download some librarys for it theres probably a 3d one that'll help you out.

Yeah; I've played a 3D GM game (Hover Tank 3D) that uses primitive models and works excellently. It shouldn't be too hard to code a 3D FPS, since I've got fairly good experience in GM, plus I'm currently Googling "game maker 3d fps engine" in another Firefox tab, so I'll see what I get.

EDIT:

Sweet! Found a fairly good FPS engine to get me started, first result on the GM forums. Now, to fuse it with some other bits of code and do some heavy modification...

EDIT 2:

Here's a Copypasta from my account at TGC forums concerning a horror FPS setting I came up with. For authenticity, here's the link to the topic over there; http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=120932&b=19

Without further ado, here's the introduction to Silent Echoes (working title).

It's a normal winter night; during a lull in the action on the televised football game, you step outside into the dark, crisp air for a few seconds to get some fresh air. You can't see much; just the streetlight to your left, and a little of the barely-illuminated street, driveway, and yard. You can't hear much, either; there's no wind, and, being Football Night in America, there aren't many people out on the streets. Suddenly, the normally-quiet neighborhood mutt begins barking up a storm a few houses down; almost as if someone is trying to break into its owner's house. After a few seconds, you write it off as nothing. A few more seconds later, the dog suddenly yelps and falls silent. At this noise, you snap your head to the right out of reflex, although you know you can't see anything since the darkness becomes complete just 25 feet in that direction.
You turn around to head back into the house, but stop short when you notice a faint rustling sound; a sound, although very faint, that is very distinct, coming from the darkness near the street. Then, it grows louder; your trained ear places it about 15 yards away when you start hearing moans. The groaning noises increase in volume and their number of sources, as does the shuffling rustling sounds. You turn around and dash inside the house, slamming and locking the door behind you.
Breathing heavily, you run past your sister sitting on the couch in the living room, en route to lock the back door. [Note; alternate living room, you were watching the game in the other living room.] After locking the back door, you systematically work your way from one end of the house to the other, locking windows and doors to rooms not in use.
"Jay; what the heck are you doing?" your sister asks as you run to the front room's plate glass windows to look outside for any signs of activity.
"Quick, Jess, kill the TV and the lights throughout the house. Get some flashlights and have Dad bring me the M4 and a few clips," you respond without flinching from the windows, "then grab Mom and get in the attic until we come up there. Take this...*hands over portable hand-radio*...and set it to the highest frequency."
[Note: Civilian has M4 from military surplus after being discharged from U.S. Marines.]
"Okay, Jay, this isn't funny...what the heck is going on?"
"Just listen to me! Don't question anything, just do it! I'll tell you more when I can," you whisper loudly, taking your attention off the front yard for a moment.
Your sister, Jessica, runs off to follow your orders. You turn back to gazing out the front, unable to see much due to the poor lighting outside. Nothing moves within the light arc emitted by the streetlight.
You hear a bunch of clicks and quiet whispers within the house, no doubt your sister rounding up the family, switching off lights, and your dad unlocking the gun case containing 2 M4s, 2 Remington shotguns, and plenty of ammunition to start a miniature neighborhood war. Seconds later, your dad walks up behind you with an M4 in each hand, taps you on the shoulder, and hands over the assault rifle. He motions back to the gun case, likely to grab some ammo, then leans the remaining M4 against the couch. You step back from the window and, in the deep darkness, blindly load the M4 from memory.
Your dad returns with an armful of rifle clips and dumps them on the end table next to the couch. You whisper for him to get the nightvision binoculars you also got from surplus, and return your attention to the front yard. Now, in the silence, you can hear the sounds outside; moans, shuffles, and scrapes. As soon as your NVBs are retrieved, they are placed between your eyes and the window. A soft click and hum is heard as you switch on the nightvision filter, and then everything outside comes into view.

Welcome to Silent Echoes.

Why don't you visit the REAL forums for GameMaker: http://gmc.yoyogames.com/ Much better then what ever forums you went to O.o
ALso try searching for 'GameMaker 3d Tutorial' or something along those lines there is an extremely good tutorial avaliable.
Edit: Some Tutorials: http://gmc.yoyogames.com/?showtopic=86203 and http://www.yoyogames.com/make/tutorials (the last one is for a FPS)

Work on the game rather than writing several paragraphs about a project that will probably spin out into bullshit anyway.
