Alien Attacks

While playing, I have noticed that for Aliens, attacks are kinda boring. Most of them are copies of the dretch attack except you hit a button. Then you have pounce (Jump but chargeable) the gas attack, and the spike attack. Also the alien screen has nothing on it but the HUD. Humans get weapons, but for aliens, you have to have an icon on the HUD to tell you what you are. I think that there should be some animations for aliens, like scuttling legs on the bottom, claws coming on screen for swipe. Do you think this is a good idea?

I definitely would love some claws like in the AVP games. Legs? Hell no, that'd be disturbing to see something scuttling around the edegs.. Would blur out some sneaky humans :D

yeah, I was thinking of something for dretches.  But really, the aliens are like walking video cameras when you play them, and upgrading really has no change except for that one icon on the hud.

Claws have been in the plans for a while. The modelers need to finish them.

i think you have just figured out the reason 1.2 is being delayed

Yeah, that's an interesting problem actually. Another problem is biting aliens. If you look at the world animation, Dragoons, Marauders, and Dretches bite rather than slash. How are you going to make that work? (Aside from lying and showing a hand swipe as apparently the Goon concept art above is going to do.)

they are so small (especially on the MG dev server) that any animation is basically lost on them anyway

i woudn't mind changing mara to slash and not having an animation for dretch, but goons are chompers.

Also you could use them to show the goon hit with the pounce ;) (hmm... gory gibs maybe? ;D )
