Tremulous Medals for Meritorious Actions Otherwise Unrecognized

I'm wondering if it would be possible to utilize the extant code for Q3a-style medals floating over your head, but modify them. I'd like to see them used to reward or label players for the following actions:

structure kill
double-kill
multi-kill
killwhore
decon
tk
OM/RC kill
Arm/Booster kill
Egg/Node kill
stageup kill
game ending kill - last round
bleeder
feeder
teamswitcher

All of these medals would last 30 seconds (or until you die), be invisible to enemies, and would pile on (you could have a trail of them). They'd also accrue on the playerstats pane, so you'd have: Destroyer rating, Constructor rating, Frags-per-feed, and any medals awarded for combat actions or the lack thereof. (Sorry, builders: no medals for you unless you add to the killcount directly or attack enemy structures in your spare time, unless you get labeled as a bleeder, feeder, teamkiller or teamswitcher; of course you will get labeled for deconning, but hey, that's just part of the job). Hello :)

This is not a bad idea, but I don't like this idea of "bonus". It will be more easy for good players to kill (Invisible tyrant, good luck naked rifle !). Just keep this idea of awards. ;)

For those who like such things, herein I'll define my terms (somewhat):

Medal/Label name (icon) - trigger [value(s)]

Structure Destruction (red or blue "S", depending on which team you are on; Arabic numeral superscript for multiple occurrences) - for destroying an enemy structure within the last 30 seconds [51% damage]

Double Kill (bronze, silver or gold Arabic "2", for 1st, 2nd and 3rd-plus occurrences, respectively) - for killing two enemies with one grenade or within X seconds of one another [range of possible max.: 3-15 seconds]

Multi-kill (bronze, silver or gold "M" for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-plus occurrences, respectively) - for killing 3 or more enemies with one grenade or within Y seconds of one another [max range as above; different value than X]

Killwhore (black "K") - for killing Z enemies without doing A damage to enemy structures within B minutes [e.g. - Z=10, A=100, B=3]

Decon (green "D"; Arabic numeral superscript for multiple occurrences) - for deconstructing any structure of your own team, whether as a builder or with a weapon/attack, within the last 30 seconds [51% dmg or builder deconstruct]

Teamkill (orange "Tragedy" mask with devil horns; black Arabic numeral overlay, for multiple occurrences) - for killing a teammate within the last 30 seconds [51% dmg]

RC/OM Destruction (bronze, silver or gold crown with white halo, for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-plus occurrences, respectively) - for destroying the enemy main structure within the last 30 seconds [51% dmg]

Arm/Booster Destruction (bronze, silver or gold battle-axe with white angel wings, for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-plus occurrences, respectively) - for destroying the enemy resupply structure within the last 30 seconds [51% dmg]

Node/Egg Destruction (bronze, silver or gold cradle with black skull-and-bones, for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-plus occurrences, respectively) - for destroying enemy spawn structures within the last 30 seconds [51% dmg]

Stageup Kill (red or blue Roman numeral "II" or "III", depending on player's team affiliation) - for getting the stageup kill for your team to advance to either Stage Two or Three, respectively [51% dmg]

Game ending Kill - last round (white tombstone with "R.I.P." in black) - for getting the last, winning kill in the preceding game on the server, by killing the last surviving member of the opposing team [51% dmg]

Bleeder (black "B") - for doing more than C damage to your own teammates or structures within D minutes [e.g. - C=250, D=2.5]

Feeder (green "F") - for dying to the enemy more than E times without killing F enemies or doing G damage to unfriendlies within H minutes [e.g. - E=5, F=1, G=100, H=2.5]

Teamswitcher (black "Domino" mask) - for switching teams within the last 30 seconds

Double kill
Triple kill
Killing Spree (5 kills)
Killing frenzy (10 kills)
Killing insanity (20 kills)
SuperNade (over 5 kills with one grenade)
OM beater (saw the om to death from full)
Base barb-er (barb the reactor to death from full)
Sting (poison a player to death)
SkullMower (charge and trample 15 humans w/o dying)
Broken Builder (destroy 10 buildings without dying)
HeadHumper (get a headshot kill)
Cookin (flame 20 dretches)
Zapper (kill a tesla generator with a marauder zap)
Sniper (get a massdriver kill on a goon or tyrant)
Radiation (get 15 irradiate kills without dying)

@Para: UT? By the way, I think you went a little overboard there with the killer medals, but hey, it's the spirit that counts.

@kev: I'd be happy just with the ones not related to killing specifically, but for destroying enemy structures. A few of them are proposed as a sort of Scarlet Letter, for possible bad actions, which could be detrimental to your own team. I'm not so concerned with rampaging, berserker-style killing sprees, which is why I have a Killwhore label, and only award medals for Double Kill and Multi-Kill, and not for anything more excessive.

Mostly I want to label good rushers, so others can follow their lead, and to point out the possible pariahs, so their team can educate them, or at least be aware of the possible fifth column within their own ranks.

Also, the colors are somewhat on a scale: red or blue for doing something worthwhile, bronze/silver/gold for successful sortie, black for bad form/lack of style/possible spy, green for watch this player, orange for backstabber, etc. Note that while this is not team deathmatch, stage advancement is keyed to killcount, so some remarkable actions should be awarded a medal, but excessive killwhoring should earn you a black mark, not a gold medal.

I hope the intent is clearer and I'm sure the old guard will hate this proposal, which only resuscitates old ideas thought long-dead and buried. I happen to like some of the arcade aspects of Quake 3 Arena, especially some of the kookier ones, like trails of icons floating behind you, and medals accruing so that your team can see who is really doing what, not just who is atop the killcount. Cheers!

P.S. To reiterate: All of these medals would last 30 seconds (or until you die), be invisible to enemies, and would pile on (you could have a trail of them).

red/blue:
structure destruction (not main/resupply/spawn structure)
stageup kill

bronze/silver/gold:
double kill
multi-kill
main/resupply/spawn structure destruction

black:
killwhore
bleeder
teamswitcher (could be legit, watch and wait)

green:
decon (could be legit, watch and wait)
feeder (needs to join/spec/observe/follow/accompany someone who is a successful attacker)

orange:
tk (it could happen to anybody once, which is why there is a counter)

Note also, that since Trem is decidedly not team deathmatch, I am not proposing any body-area-specific damage medals, like for a headshot, or any weapon/class-specific damage medals, like using an MD or a mara to accomplish a specific goal. I am only interested in driving players towards the stated goals of the game: destroy the enemy base (especially their main, resupply and spawn structures, but also whittle down their defenses); get kills, but not just kills (remember, destroy the enemy base); don't shoot your own team or base; don't die repeatedly without hurting the enemy a little bit; deconning is a neutral action without context; so is teamswitching; certain kills are very important, like the ones that advance the stage counter, and the one that wins the game. I consider these medals visual aids for n00bs, and helpful ways for experienced players to recognize who is really helping the team (and who is fiddling around).

If I have not made it clear, I want to state unequivocally that I am NOT proposing utilizing Quad Damage, Invulnerability, Invisibility, Speed, Strength, Stamina, Marksmanship, Penmanship or Brinksmanship: NO SPECIAL POWERS OR ABILITIES ARE BESTOWED. An icon floats above your head, visible only to teammates, for a brief time, and on some playerstats pane somewhere, you can see who had how many successful armoury runs in the last game (or all of today's results by game and by player for that server, with medals awarded shown also).

I am open to play testing any possible value for all variables involved. I am even willing to politely debate the relative merits of various durations for different medals. I'm really not sure how long they should persist, but somewhere between half a minute (pretty short) and about three minutes (way too long) seems about right. Thanks for bringing that up. What I forgot to mention is that this idea will not be implemented by me, so have at it. Sixty seconds would seem to be a pretty good length of time, but only play testing will really reveal whether that is too cumbersome or not. Thanks for seriously considering the idea, and tossing out suggestions, mooseberry. Cheers!

The Inevitable List of Silly Names to Replace the Boring Default Ones (funnier icon suggestion)

Structure Destruction: Striker (hammer)
Stageup Kill: Advancement (arrow pointing up)
Double Kill: Hunter (spearhead)
Multi-Kill: Hat Trick (top hat in ring)
Main Structure Destruction (RC/OM): Dreadnaught (skull-and-crossbones)
Resupply Structure Destruction (Arm/Bstr): Destroyer (skull-and-crossed swords)
Spawn Structure Destruction (Node/Egg): Basekiller (skull-and-crossed muskets)
Killwhore: Lurker (just the word "cheap")
Bleeder: Aimless (a target with one shot in the outermost ring)
Teamswitcher: Quisling (a question mark, "?")
Decon: Sapper or Saboteur (the bomb symbol from Stratego or a similar sabotage icon)
Feeder: Rookie (n00b!)
Teamkiller: Backstabber (dagger)

Also, I am not averse to even bringing back the Arena Announcer voice, but it could get really annoying in a big game, a long game, or after a couple of days/weeks/months/minutes. All of the silly new names would sound good as Arena Announcements. Try 'em out for yourself! Clean fun for crazed geeks...

Thanks.  :) I was thinking about having someway to view them besides just floating above the player's head for a certain amount of time, obviously having them in score would be out of the question because of size and cluster, but maybe in mystats. Than again being in mystats would be good for nothing except e-penis boosts, so probably it would be best to stick with player1's origanal idea.  ;)

Personally, I'd like some Perfect Dark (n64 one) style after-game stats, right clicking someone's name would bring up their stats, like:

*Weapon/Class of choice
*Damage dealt to players
*Damage dealt to structures
*Amount of structures destroyed
*Deaths
*Headshots
*Accuracy
*% of time spent in base
*Teamkills
*Structures built
*Damage Taken
*Suicides

There could also be a medals screen, which is just a list of the medals and the players who got them, some examples:

*Most vocal: player that taunted the most
*Least accurate
*Most accurate
*Frequent Flyer: Player that moved the most distance
*Camper: Player that moved the lease distance
*Feeder: Player that died the most
*Most brave: Player that spent the most time out of base
*Most clumsy: Player with the most tk's
*Assassin: Player that killed the most player's without being counter attacked by victim
*Survivor: Player with the least deaths
*Raider: Player that destroyed the most structures
*Most evolved: Alien player that spent the most evo's, they kept getting killed with expensive classes...
*Biggest spender: Human player that spent the most credits

I was trying to keep the list somewhat short. Also, I somewhat streamlined this idea, and started a new thread. Let me know what you think of that version.
