Good Builders for Humans are Scarce

Started by The Crazie Coward, February 02, 2008, 02:22:44 PM

Do you see good human builders before?

Yes, Frequently
Yes, Rarely
I forgot...I think i did?
Don't know, Don't Care
No, NEVER

The Crazie Coward

Good human builders are SUPER RARE.....all i see if crappy builds here and there......rarely seen some real successful moves at the right areas. I jsut want your opinion at this type of situation where....people do not really notice the noob human builders that much.(that is why humans always lose to aliens)
TSME is a group of builders dedicated to make indestructable bases,
ensuring the base is ready for any amount of attacks,
and is always dedicated to their jobs.

I'm usually on D*S, they tend to have experienced players on very often.

I see them--ME!!!  Okay, okay, dont take that the wrong way.  You just have to remember "semicircles".  Well, and "squeeze".

good players in general are scarce compared to what some of us are used to (i miss the days when it was HUMANS rushing at the start of transit, not aliens :-\)

Depends on the server. If you find their building shoddy then tell them they need to fix it. Failing that build yourself, a solution that I find generally works.

I build well on both teams, but I'm now more used to 999 bps. But other then me, I see good builders quite rarely.

I'm sorry, but if the only way you can build well is if you have 999 build points, then you are not a good builder.

I'm not claiming that I'm any better with 100.. but just about anyone can build a good base with 999...

I never said it's the only way I can build well, did I? I can also build good bases with 100 bps ::) but I just haven't recently. Compared to most others, I build better/faster with 999 bps as well.

depends what you consider a good base

kozak6

I wonder if good human builders are scarce because more experienced players prefer to play as aliens.

Aliens hit harder in the hands of a skilled player when compared to humans.  If you're in the mood to pwn, go alien... even as a dretch you're a major PITA unless your opponent is at least halfway decent.

it usualy depends on the server. noobs tend to stick to the ATCS map and on smaller servers. i think that an efective way to resolve this issue whould be to make servers with bots or tutorial programs to help the noobs. also instead of flameing the noob it whould help to teach them. my advice for the noobs is to either camp or observe the battles before actualy attacking. this goes for both teams.

St. Anger

They aren't scarce, you just play on noob servers.

KobraKaine

I definitely agree with kozak6 and jr2... most of the good players prefer to go alien, for many reasons.  (With the exception of the un-noob servers mentioned by St. Anger... those servers everyone pwns.)

I think the main difficulty is just the fact that on maps like transit, tremor, and karith the defaults just plain blow, and unless you know half your team you are scared to move the base for fear the noobs won't cover your move.

Noobs usually go to bigger servers IMO.

100 bps are like nothing. Only in ATCS you can make some kind on defence with it and you can win. Problem is, there is not enough points to make forward base or 2 like alien can with 100 bps. Its important to humans to minimize walking time from human base to alien base.

On 999 bps servers, building is key element, not only securing reactor, more important even, make forward bases. It only needs repeater, medi and tesla, and  lucyguy can make alot pain with it. If its nearer to alien base, more damage can such a small camp do.

And even on SD, builders are needed, repeater can be very effective blocker and gives energy ammo too.
I build mostly forward bases like so: :repeater: :turret: :tesla: :tesla: :medstat: :armoury: :tesla: :tesla: :turret: :repeater:
Point is, if one repeater is going down, second one is giving power to all buildings. On SD, you can replace blowed repeater.

mana

Forward human bases are in general a bad idea in my opinion.

-They are difficult to set up and to maintain
-the defense of your main base is weakened
-it makes all noobs in your team feed even more

Having said that i can think of only very rare occasions that might profit from a forward human base.

jr2

Well... say you make a forward base w/ rets right outside the main alien entrance in ATCS.  If you managed to pull it off, it'd be a pain (for the aliens) in AS1 or AS2.  AS3, it's game over anyways, usually.  Or what about having the base at the top of the bunker in ATCS?  There is one place for the reac that makes it impossible to snipe it from below except in one location, which is easy to cover.  I've seen it.

On top of bunker react will blow. Sniping on air is not soo difficult. No matter what side you have, in ATCS build inside bunker, not top of it.

In ATCS you can say, who owns tunnel, wins. If you manage to make as human forward base in middle of tunnel, you have very good chance to win.
