I supose maybe even TraK and Taiyo etc were flamed for their very fuirst maps, is this true, or were you born amazing?

I wasn't amazing, but people didn't jump to the occasion to rip my work apart. Mind you, the first map I released was not the first map I ever made, and it did have a lot more work put into it than a lot of the stuff we see here. Thread here : ADOC

Anyways, this map is a box, this is next to nill on detail and extra's. And after playing this map, frankly Im surprised you had lights, I kinda thought the map might actually be somewhat better if it was global lighting.

Your map might need more detail. Details on a map are enjoyable and make the map interesting. For example, don't make the walls very monotonous. Add some interesting details near the ceiling or near the floor, like circuit boxes, pipes, etc. And add some interesting textures too.

Nevertheless, not bad for a first map!

better than my first map. i didn't even get it to work in tremulous!!!!!

In fact this is one of my favorite maps.

note to bashers. have you ever made a map? well if you have then you know ITS HARD to make a good map and this one is a nice map iven though is a box. isn't A.T.C.S. a box map? it is probably on of the most popular maps.

well now im working on a neighborhood size map and its been difficult..

Effort is required for a map to be "good".
It is not difficult, it is just time consuming (less so for more experienced mappers), however, the use of 1 texture (wall/light) spammed over and over again is not what we can call very much effort.

i think i know what he did.  He is good with programing and stuff so when he made is first map he released it.  I have made like 25 .maps 3 .bsps and never released a map because i suck at programing zipping unzipping what ever the fuck i should do.

Not really, Arachnid is better, it has long lines of sight as well as small corridors and varied terrain.
If you need huge square rooms with perfectly flat ground and walls in order to practice your MD aim, you desperately need practice.

How DO you decompile a map anyway? I'd like to see how atcs is built and how the sound is blocked through the walls... I can't block sounds in between rooms... (Look at ATCS Alpha, or whatever it's name is).

And this makes me feel iffy about releasing a map (b1, right now) i've spent dozens of times redoing, recompiling, testing, asking friends / random players what looks good n bad, etc...

scroll all the way to the end, there is some instructions on how to decompile .bsps

btw I would think the sounds work are affected by the vis portals on your map, the vis portals created by the compiler automatically are not the best. You can improve them by a whole lot once you understand hint brushes, give it a read ;D

The way to blocks sounds is the same as the way to block the radar detection. Make sure it's not in your current PVS and you will not hear it.
There are some annoyances surrounding target_speakers and the PVS, but overall it works good enough.
