server configurations ruin game
« on: May 26, 2006, 06:45:08 pm »
today I was playing on some db@ server with ff on and votes off. in this game a human player randomly deconstructed the generator and shooting his team. since votes were disabled there was no way to get rid of him, which was pretty annoying. also I noticed that ff realy doesnt fit in the game. I know that it is meant to prevent human lucifer spamming but it as well prevents using any spreading weapon as well: I teamkilled several people using chaingun trying to help them getting rid of dretches.
Perhaps ff is viable in clanwars but on publics it is a showstopper.

Votes should always be on. I dont care if it spams.

Howver, FF should also be on, but only certain objects+people+weapons+attacks should damage. The TJW server, atleast for the Alien team, hanldes FF perfectly.

Other servers just simply have FF on all the way, and it causes problems for the Alien team atleast.

We have some servers running with FF on, others with FF off... just for personal preference.
Most of our members prefer FF on, playing as alien and as human! Our thought being that pointless weapon spamming is ruining the game, not the other way round.

To check which servers are FF enabled and which are not you may want to look at this topic: http://www.tremulous.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=560

There are ways to have a comprimise to prevent spam.
Just add
set g_votelimit 1
to your server config, and then users will be able to vote only a few times (i think it is 3). Admins are not restricted by this, nor are any other user with the admin level with permissions to ignore the votelimit. This is only on Trembot.

We are using R1Admin, so it won't be available.

Having some external Admins now should help a bit, though. If you got any db@ member, Girlpower, larsson or DarkWolf on the server, you got an admin on the server... ;)

Hmm I've also been playing alot on your servers the last couple of weeks (as [LLJK]Henners), and frequently encounter the same problem, but I rarely see admins about.

Its incredibly frustrating when it occurs halfway through a well fought map - which it often does as I find these morons tend to get upset at dying lots, and so switch team and decon things/TK for "revenge" .

Anyway if you need any more "external" admins drop me a line - If you want to know about my suitability/"qualifications" I'm a senior Jolt public admin for TFC (see www.tfc.jolt.co.uk if you wish to check my credentials or #tfc.jolt on quakenet) and have extensive online adminning experience across a range of games (mainly HL mods mind you). I'm sure by now many of your players will at least recognise me, and I do have good understanding of the game system and dynamics (as evidenced by my consistant high score and key target destroying).

But anyway aside from that do you guys have an IRC channel or something similar where an admin can be obtained at short notice?
