Sort-by-Ping (for Intel Mac) Patch
« on: February 26, 2008, 01:21:16 pm »
It usually autodownloads within a few days of a fresh reinstall (just by surfing to my fave servers), but does anyone know where it can be found on the web? I'm not seeing it at the }MG{ Patch Tracker. It doesn't come with the current client, even when backported. It's no big deal, I only play a few servers anyway; I was just wondering. Thanks.

You need a new ui.qvm, which comes in vms.pk3, try downloading the one from www.trem-servers.net

You mean the client available at this site? Thanks. Now I just have to figure out what to unzip to where. They have instructions for Windows and Linux, but not for Mac (it's usually pretty painless with Mac, or completely screwy). Much appreciated. Totally forgot about that downloads page on their site.

A quick glance through the t971.patch reveals that it disables Mac OSX mouse acceleration also. w00t!

Any modern client has disabled mouse acceleration and sort-by-ping, they are both 'official' features.
However, disabled mouse acceleration leaves your mouse so sluggish on the menu screen that I opted (back when I still worked with the trem-servers guys) to disable the cvar by default.
The trouble with sort-by-ping is just getting a ui.qvm to load that uses it. Load tremx, mgdev, or any other mod and you should be fine.

Thanks, dude. I usually just get it from connecting to BG or one of Risujin's servers (I guess BetaServ doesn't exist anymore, or I just didn't see it in the list). Every now and then, I'll get some nice mod files, and then I can't play at SST anymore (can't spawn, and if I can, can't evolve). Messes with all the menus. I'll be glad when and if a more bundled client comes out, but I'm sure you DIY types like the fact that it keeps the masses away.

Cheers!

P.S. So then mouse accel would still be enabled in that patch? It would seem to help a little from doing a freakin' 720 when all I want to do is turn right. :D

I have the standard tjw Mac client and the basic backport for it (I just pasted the icon over the old one, as per the instructions).

This is because SST has crappy server settings that don't ensure your cgame and their game match.
BetaServ still exists, but it uses protocol 70 and thus cannot be accessed by most clients.

It's enabled but disableable. /in_disablemacosxmouseaccel is the cvar name if I remember correctly.
And, maybe you should just turn /sensitivity down.

(Apparently disableable isn't a word, but I can't find a better one)

"Can be disabled"?
