Scrimmers beware: cheaters use ptrc bug
« on: February 29, 2008, 10:30:59 pm »
Description:
By using the same ptrc number as a connected client you can reconnect and double your evolution points/money.

Assumptions:
  • /share is enabled
  • no one notices from spectators that you got extra evolution points/money

Test results:
This was tested during a (boring) scrim between Zubs and AA. I transferred over 8 evolution points without them noticing. Sorry :-)

Temporary fix:
Disable /share during a scrim or keep a lookout for people joining locked teams.

Conclusion:
Please do not post step by step details on how to reproduce this bug.

lol @ tested, dude dont try to play it off like that, you got caught cheating

during the scrim freak noticed a 6th player poppin in onto the Zubs team, so he banned him. when the map restarted, Amine.Zubs was banned along with the second client. Amine being the faggot he is, said AA was up to something shady, after reading server logs we saw the nice PMs between zubs detailing what had happened and that apple knew what amine was doin

Apple didn't know how I did it, just that I was getting evolution points somehow. The PM was just to Apple, not to Zubs. As a matter of fact, Apple specifically told me to stop it. I never denied cheating because I was never accused of cheating. I just said that every time I get on AA server to scrim I got banned (which happened 5/7 scrims, so far). There is no reason to act hostile and immature by using words like 'faggot'. I did not tell you guys I used the bug because I wanted to see it used during the scrim and see if it gets detected or not. Once you came to my server and asked me if I cheated somehow, I said 'yes' and apologized in person. Here is the log:

Code: [Select]
213:53 say: Amine.Zubs: Yes, I cheated
214:20 say: .7Farmer Jon: you got 4 from avo or whatever your name is
217:02 sayteam: [S] be$t: which happened to be your second client
217:52 sayteam: [S] Amine.Zubs: yes, dustin
217:53 sayteam: [S] Amine.Zubs: I cheated
217:55 sayteam: [S] Amine.Zubs: and I'm sorry
218:05 sayteam: [S] be$t: accepted

Code: [Select]
222:14 say: Amine.Zubs: dustin
222:15 say: Explicit.Zubs: ok?
222:16 say: Amine.Zubs: tell AA I said sorry ok
222:23 say: be$t: ok

an easy fix is to check the GUID in the admin_ban_check function, adding a check for same GUID of the connecting player and an already connected one and banning a player if the GUIDs are the same *(return qtrue).

if someone needs, Ill write a simple patch for this.

alright i'm sorry, but if you were truly just testing, you would have admitted to what you were doing right after the match. instead you played stupid (your own words), you only came clean when we looked at the logs. the only thing you tested was to see if you could get away with cheating, and if you did, im sure you wouldve done so in many scrims to follow. it also makes one wonder if youve done this in the past, since you flat out refused to scrim anywhere else but your own server

Why are you so eager to accuse *us* of "cheating," j-cool? Trying to shift attention, eh?  It is rather ironic, especially considering AA's history of ghosting. And though I can't remember exactly who ghosted, I remember he sounded somewhat like you (a kid).  It also happened more than once.

You see, Zubs is comprised of mainly adults, while AA is comprised of mainly children and adolescents.  It follows that Zubs will always take tremulous less seriously than AA will.  It is thus actually quite believable - and actually true - that Amine, who has much better things to do than worry about winning a game, would use this as a test and not as a means to win (a.k.a. cheating).

Now, there is no need for anymore dumb drama (clever drama is more than welcome, though).  I believe this issue was already addressed sufficiently in the now-locked topic.

Were not shifting any attention, you shouldn't of cheated if you didn't want the attention.

And where is the proof to back up that? exactly, because we have never ghosted.

You are as much of a child as anyone in AA, also, where did you get that from, or is it just another 'shift of attention'

Then why did he cheat and then lie about it in the server?

We didn't start the drama, we dropped the subject but amine posted a topic.

Also, if he was testing it why would you say, ''only do it when we need it mang.'' He did it 3 times, and probably more if I hadn't banned him.

Obviously, Amine did something that he shouldn't have done. That's all.

He can take the responsibility of what he did; it is not something between AA and Zubs. So please don't accuse each other, don't make things more complicated than they are.

Best,

My proof comes from the time when I was actually in AA.  I've said AA ghosts before this topic was ever posted, so you can't really say I'm trying to shift attention.  In fact, it's fairly well known that AA ghosts - we're not the only clan who knows it (I won't name any others, though, for reasons of privacy).  I am fairly certain ghosting multiple times > exploiting an evo bug once in terms of the "cheating" scale.

I admit I can be childish, but at least I don't pull Yarous like j-cool does (planting the seeds of discord). He knows what I am referring to. :-p

You can't really say the same thing, since the old Zubs didn't use TS, and played with mm1 and PMs off.  And you aren't exactly an ex-zub.

Completely different clan from this one. That's like Yarou saying the old SGA cheated.
I think the real solution to stopping the ghosting is to have both teams on one TS, and no one but those scrimming allowed in the TS channels.

As for Zubs's cheat, I really didn't know it was going on, nor do I condone it, but no matter what that match was never going to be concluded, with the first round a draw, and Amine had better things to do than finish a meaningless round. I myself was taking the round seriously, but in the end noone's bleeding so its whatever.

Sorry@AA

These whole threads are pointless either you believe amine, that he won't do it again and was just testing or you don't.

This is however the first time I have heard AA ghosts. That disturbs me you guys, I usually go on trust alone to fight ghosting. I might think about taking other precautions now.

you're going to believe the word of apple who was the accomplice to someone proved cheating during a scrim, over the word of all AA? we do not ghost, and the only time i can recall was when bug (who's now apart of Zubs) ghosted during the last 2 minutes of an NT match, after we told him to stfu

i'm all for being on the same ts with channels locked from now on

I am not saying what he did wasn't dumb. I just don't like having to think about ghosters.  Its also nice to know how this bug looks from an opponents point of view. I will be sure to watch for clients joining with the same ip as someone scrimming.

after reading this thread, this is what i have to say:

i believe all of you if that it possible

i believe amine that he has only done it once, was testing, and wont do it again.
i believe apple that AA probably has ghosted before
i believe bastard that procaucsions** should be made
i agree with yahoo, that if he did catch ghosting he would try to stop it
and on and on...

i all respect you guys that you are all good players and i would not acuse of cheating out in the open.

but due to the situation,
i know: Zubs used a cheat, and AA has probably have ghosted in there career. I think we need to be extra carefull when scrimming.

Let me add one then. 4 day ban for further discussion of this incident on this forum. FFS people. Is it that hard to read. If it's a big deal than it's still only between those two clans, and to be discussed on those two forums or ingame. Not here.
