Nothing happens
« on: March 16, 2008, 10:50:20 am »
Hello there. I don't know if anybody knows me, but I played tremulous awhile back. At the time I was running windows, and because of some problems... I am now running Ubuntu. I installed Tremulous and ran it through wine, but it plays likes crap. It's bleached and lags to hell. I then tried the Linux version, but when I try to run it, the screen fades to black nothing happens for a second then I'm just sent back to my desktop. No error message. I don't have a clue what could be causing this.

Run tremulous within a console. This should give you some error messages.

Ok, the error message I get is "could not load OpenGL"... *looks*

Quote
Q: I get the error 'GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem' when I try to run Tremulous!
A: This error is caused by the game not being able to detect your Open GL drivers for your graphics card.  There are two things you can try to resolve this issue:

-If you are using your vendors graphic card drivers (i.e. Asus, Abit), try using your manufacturer's graphic card drivers (i.e. ATI, Nvidia)
-If you are using the manufacturer's graphic card drivers, try using the vendors card drivers.
-If the above steps fail, try uninstalling your graphic card drivers completely, rebooting, then reinstalling the latest set of drivers, rebooting a second time, and trying to run Tremulous again.

... I have no clue how to do anything this is telling me to do...

Look like you don't have 3D-acceleration. Here is a fine HowTo that should help you:

I love you guys. ^_^
But it seems my computer doesn't love me. I was playing fine for about 5 minutes, when all of a sudden it went from full screen to window, and none of the input registered. The game didn't freeze, but it I couldn't move, and I couldn't close it. I had to restart.

run tremulous from a terminal from now on so you can tell if any error messages come up.
also, try disabling Compiz or Beryl if you have one of them installed, they mess with fullscreen & opengl apps

I don't get any errors. Is there some kind of command that I can use that will close all the running programs?

For the windowed mode thing, alt+enter switches between windowed and full-screen mode.
Open the trem console (button left of 1) to release the mouse in windowed mode.

I get that when stupid apps like gaim decide they just *must* have the input now, and do a bad job of getting it.  They get the focus, but not the mouse, leaving you screwed.

Also, you don't need to restart, Ctrl-Atl-F2 and killall tremulous.x86 should work, if not Ctrl-Alt-BackSpace will restart X.
