I would like to see team captains implemented.  The captain could be a different color and have extra hit points.  He (or she) could have leading commands that go to every player or just one and could be booted by the team if they don't like him/her.

Not sure how they are chosen.  Perhaps by a vote.  I just think that this would greatly improve the in-game teamwork.  What do you guys think.

There is no need to designate a "leader". People listen to, and follow people who deserve to be heeded.

After a few games on the same server, the few people that are going to be there for a good couple of hours will be hanging around and a leader or leaders will develop at that point.

That works fine for public games. I cant see an advantage in one player sporting an "the leader" insignia when ultimately the team needs to work together and sort individual jobs out in smaller groups autonomously, rather than one guy barking orders.

Good leaders for rallying a rush are excellent but it has to be done right and it takes a good deal of effort and skill to engineer and pull off on public servers (in my experience).

Tremulous is not like Battlefield where is a commander to organize supplies, artillery and to bark orders into the radio.
I mean to have a valid reason for haveing a commander in Tremulous would also require unique features for the commander that would make it into something useful thus it would completely change the anarchistic features of Treulous' teamwork and it's gameplay.
Without these changes there is no point in implementing a commander system as players eventually will follow other players whom they respect in game without haveing to vote for him.

So I agree with ODDity that there is no point in haveing a designated special player as a leader in this form. Maybe in a mod where leaders would get useful features not just bonus hps. ;)

Also extra HP would skrew up balance. Could you imagine a dretch that took 10 shots to kill? Or a bsuit who took like 10? Everyone would say he was hacking...
