Tremulous semi lock ups [Mac...]
« on: March 28, 2008, 07:14:13 am »
Ok so heres the problem I'm playing normally in the game and then, randomly, my trem locks up. I cant say anything everything is frozen is almost like I'm disconnected (I think I might be). All I can do is bring up the console (cant do any commands) or hit my \quit bind. This randomly happens in the game, its not 999 ping because it doesn't go away, and comes when I have absolutely no lag. I am confused and it has lost me kills as well as the key parts in many games can anyone help?

intell mac
10.4
1gb ram

ps. ask if any more info is needed

Hi. I have an Intel MacBook. I doubled my RAM, to 2GB, and found that was quite helpful. I now also have almost all of the graphics turned way down, as I don't find much time to admire the textures. This, too, seems to make the game less choppy. What machine, and what gfx card (or lack thereof, as mine has an integrated GPU that shares memory with CPU)?

But before you go spend money, also, what kind of router/wireless/modem/connection do you have? Could it be either your internets or your wireless environment?

I use Airport, which was pretty fast as of last year, (to make up for the crappy gfx processing abilities), and it's almost seamless, but I am not really running any sort of process to monitor the performance. I also use a wireless mouse and keyboard as well as an external monitor, so pushing it with two antennas at once hasn't been a problem either, except for the heat issues (I recommend a cooling stand for this laptop).

Anyway, to sum up, idk it could be a few things, and someone more knowledgeable will probably come along soon and correct all of my misapprehensions. Good luck with it, and more info would be useful for any potentially helpful posters who happen along.

sounds like you're getting disconnected. (if you're on wireless try reproducing this on wired)

Does the rendering freeze? Or do you just stand in place? Do others move around you still while you are frozen? This can be an indication of some lag.

No, nothing moves its just like I'm disconnected but it happens randomly when I dont have lag... It never disconnected me before (I am on wireless) could it be the server?

It's most likely the wireless. You probably have a bad signal. Try turning on a microwave oven and play at the same time. If you get lag, there's your problem. You should change the channel in your router settings and reconnect to it to get on a different frequency.

ya most likely the internet type in console /cg_lagometer 1 then when it says connection interrupted when the internet is down and if it just freezes up then thats a different problem

Edit: I found the problem. Either telus is skimping us out because they came out with their new ''extreme high speed'' and want us to upgrade, (our ADSL keeps crapping out on us) or it could be our modem is dieing. Either way we're getting a new plan with shaw that gives us a free modem. So problem soon to be solved.
