Fireplace (WIP)
« on: April 04, 2008, 06:09:28 pm »
I've posted this on the Anim8or forum, but why not posting this here anyway (a great way to sell my fish). This is a WIP (work in progress) of a huge fireplace front for a palace room. The candelabrums you see on my website were made for that room as well. Here are the pictures of my progress so far:

The decorative column to be included on the side pillar. Its a column cut in half, actially, and the base and capital are missing.

The same mesh rendered.

Now with the base ready.

Detail of the base.

The side pillars are ready. The one on the left was mirrored.

The same meshes rendered.

There is still a long way to go in order for the fireplace front to be completed. I've posted this here to see if the model "meets" (without wanting to be ironic of offensive) the high standards of the users of this forum. I've posted this on the Anim8or forum, but I need the point of view from anyone that doesn't use Anim8or as well.

Oooh...

I gave it good, because Stannum raises the standard for the forums so hight, but by comparison to so many I've seen, it is awesome (ie. better than I could do)!

Keep up the good work, and maybe you should try to make some models for Trem.

I've made some progress since yesterday. Made the base fire guards below the posts. They are pretty basic when compared to the columns. Still to do is the sill (should be easy), the brackets that support the lintel (highly decorated) and the lintel (highly decorated too). These are temporary renders. The fireplace width is not set yet (will be much wider than that). Here are the latest pictures:

Wireframe with faces.

Rendered model. As you can see, the stones will be embedded on the wall.

Thanks!

About modeling for trem, I think it would be a bit complicated, because I don't know what are the requirements (specifications). I already tried mapping, but I guess I'm just too bad at that (it was just a tiny symmetrical map with three rooms, to experiment with).

P.S.: I voted mediocre because I don't want to favour myself.

Requirements?

Well, if you're model is less than 1000 poly's (triangulated), then you'll be fine. I doubt, however, that that model is.

Just out of curiosity, the model has 1858 points, 4088 edges and 2238 faces, some of them n-gons. I guess it won't do.

Thanks!

Just an update. I didn't quit from this project. I had to suspend it because I was to busy finishing the layout of a printed circuit board in the last few days. I'm retaking the fireplace project today.

Meanwhile, thanks for the positive feedback so far.

The fireplace mantel (I think I can call it that) is approaching the finishes. The brackets are done. Here are the pictures:

Detail view of the brackets.

Rendered model with brackets.

The fireplace width is not set yet. I still have to choose the best proportion.

The sill is finished. It only took one afternoon. Still to do is the heavily decorated lintel. Here are the pictures so far:

Sill detail.

The almost finished model rendered.

The opening is 2.26 metres wide and 1.82 meters high.

Finally, the fireplace mantel model is complete. The material is set so it looks like limestone (pinkish variant). In the future, I will post the images of the fireplace mantle integrated on a wall. Meanwhile, you can see the pictires of the finished model:

Overview of the meshes.

Lintel detail.

The rendered image of the mantel.

Lintel detail, now rendered.

Now it is a good time to start mass vote in the poll. Contribute with your sincere opinion (but don't ask me to change anything because the model has been published).
