Myth : Dretches dieing at the hands of turrets are feeding !
Mostly false. Turret kills do not seem to count for stage unlocking so if you are in the front line and sure to die, try to suicide on a turret. On the other hand, if at least one human damaged you before you are killed, then they'll still gain the full money so you can still feed them a little like that.

If human players do at least 50% damage the human team gets the point towards advancing the stage after a turret kill.

So, dretches humping a turret at 25 health are not feeding at all. If your dretch is taken to 15hp (eg. 2 rounds from a player's rifle), you won't advance the stage but you will give them the full 175 cash. If you're taken to 10hp before you turret hump, then you are FEEDING. If you are taken to 10hp then go away to heal up to 25, and then turret hump- you are STILL feeding.

So, if you just can't stay off those turrets, try to do it when there are no human players around.

Some notes about the mass driver as I'm just sick of being (or seeing others being) accused of using an aimbot/cheating by some new (esp. dretch) players:

1. mass driver is rather hard to use if you use the default mouse sensitivity (which in trem is 5, iirc) - fiddling around with that setting helps alot, no magic involved.

2. moving in straight lines or predictable patterns (jump left, then right, then left etc.) is just asking to get shot. With most players it's quite easy to see what they'll do next.

3. if you're fighting humans and get shot in mid-air that's not ungodly aim. While you may make life difficult for those 1-2 human players whose legs you're humping, there may be a third one with a mass driver still quite a distance away. From his POV your moves are quite different and he can carefully aim - no magic involved.

4. (especially on the Niveus map, balcony above the little door): if you as a dretch get shot down in mid-air there is no magic involved. You'd be surprised what big juicy targets dretches can be if you get to see them from below (or directly above). While this may involve some guessing on the human player's part during stage 1, helmets at stage 2 make it a rather easy way to kill dretches.

5. Basilisks die in ~2 shots, marauders in ~5, and dragoons take a little more. With only 7 shots per round an untimely reload can mean the death of the mass driver user.

6. multiple dretch attacks are hard to deal with if you use a mass driver - unless you manage to split them up somehow. Or they manage to pile up neatly.

7. (Probably the most important one): a human with a mass driver who stands still is a dead human.

8. Mass driver is rather useless against tyrants in most conditions - yet it's not impossible to kill a tyrant that way (depends alot on whether the alien knows what he's doing or not).

9. Flame throwers pretty much funlily the viability of a mass driver. See someone running around with a flame thrower? You're pretty much safe from being mass driven.

they'll gain the money, but not the kill... kills are what count torwards stages.

seriously, though... it can be kinda useful if you have a high base, because if you have decent aim and they aren't moving much, you can keep jetpacks grounded.

i learned this fact because i was put in a situation where i had to... not by choice

You forgot to mention that the Mass Driver has a scope.

Although I can't quite remember, it is bound by default to Z, right?

It took me forever to figure it out because it isn't mentioned in the manual or anywhere else, and because I had bound Z to something else.

Yes it has a scope (bound to Z by default) but I didn't mention it as it's rather pointless in practice, imho. Found myself using it maybe once every 200 shots.

I think the Z is just there for the nice visual effect you get when you tap it quickly

Also does anyone know whether the mass driver has penetration or perhaps a small bang at the end. As i've seen two dretches getting killed in a single shot.

Hay, are there still people saying the Basilisk is not very good, of difficult to use? Just touch human and pet head, how can it be so hard?

Don't think so. Can't count how many times I had one shot left to kill a dragoon or marauder and some pesky dretch manages to jump right into the line of fire - wasting that precious one shot :roll:

Myth: Eggs work as replacements for barriers

The myth goes like this: Barriers are useless.  Instead of building a barrier, just build an egg!  It serves double duty!  Duh!

Reality: Eggs are lousy blockers

The only thing an egg can reliably block would be a smurf, if one was running around trem.  There is a post around this forum somewhere that illustrates how small the hitbox is for an egg.  It is about the size of a dretch on the ground.  So if you put up an egg in front of the OM hoping to block line of sight to the OM so it doesn't get shot from across a room, you are mistaken.  The shooter can just shoot through the egg and hit the OM.

IMO, barriers are useful if you have a server with a few extra build points and you want to prevent shooting the OM from a hallway or make it harder to toss in a grenade to a sensitive spot.  I'm pretty sure that barrier can take a grenade and needs some extra shots to finish it off.  It also has a large hitbox so it is tough to toss a grenade over it or around it.

On the other hand, barriers are expensive.  Its much better to find a spot for the OM where it can't be shot from a distance without needing a barrier.

Myth: Crawling on the roof into an enemy base will get you in.

Reality: Turrets can shoot upwards, and really, if you are smart enough to go onto the roof, the humans will be smart enough to look there   . If you want to get into a base (and do any damage once you are in) wait till you are something that can take a little damage. At least marauder, goon is much better.

-Bonus Tip: Its harder to hit a dretch/basilisk who moves on the floor, walls and roof, so that might (it probably wont) get you in. And to be perfectly honest, once you get in, there isnt a lot you can do.

It is hard. The basilisk is for more advanced players. Used well it can be great, but as a human, I have been grabbed by a basilisk and simply turned around and emptied my rifle clip into it, and killed it. In the next version it should have a much more powerful slash.
