Tremulous not opening after GUID put in
« on: April 17, 2008, 04:40:14 am »
I put my GUID in (replaced it) and for some reason Tremulous doesn't open with it. The only thing i did was change my resolution in game to a very high one, too high for my laptop, and the game doesn't start with my GUID anymore. It says OpenGL subsystems couldn't open or something like that. I tried downloading a graphics accelerator and it didn't work on my computer so now I'm stuck without a GUID. I can still run tremulous but without a GUID. I am running on a Windows XP and have never had this type of problem before. I have no viruses and have done these two things: Right-Clicked Tremulous, clicked Compatibility tab and then clicked run in 640 x 480 screen resolution but that didn't work. I have also tried to change it in-game to my previous resolution but that didn't work either.

Anyone have any suggestions or help, i would really appreciate it.

Your description is a bit confuzzling.
1. Your GUID is stored in a file named qkey. To generate this file and to use the GUID you have to use one of the improved clients (tjw or trem-servers.com). If you delete the qkey file, tremulous will create a new one on the next start. So you can't run tremulous without a GUID.
2. Your error message ("OpenGL subsystems couldn't open or something like that") has already been answered in the FAQ. Please read the FAQ.

To start tremulous with it's default settings, delete the file "autogen.cfg" (don't forget to make a backup). On the next start, tremulous will generate a new autogen.cfg.

Or you can try starting with +Set r_more 4 to reset the resolution.

Here is what happened. Sorry for his wording. The GUID had been working perfectly until he changed his resolution (to 1280 by 1024, when his computer can only go up to 1280 by 800). This is from another site (knightsofreason.org)

"Recently, my GUID has "broken" and I have been trying to install a new one. The cause was when I accidentally set the resolution of the game to an output beyond which my computer can do. I have re-installed TJW's backport over three times, all of the backports downloaded independantly over three different times. I have even tried the svn backport... So, I re-installed trem. Without the backport, tremulous still works, but as soon as I use the backport, it won't function and I recieve an OpenGL error. So, I won't be on Tremulous with a GUID for a while....Hopefully by the end of the week I can have this fixed."

NOTE: This only appears when I use the backport.

Remove the config files that the backport stores in %appdata%/tremulous/base, which is where the backport stores it's config files. This problem has been dealt with a multitude of times already. Next time try looking around on this board before wasting people's time.

The thing is, he has. Multiple times. He's even gone to re-installing the backport, trem and drivers.

Then look on this board for the solution of your problem, it took me 2 seconds to find the post which has the solution, it's right here on the frontpage.

Also, if you remove all config files, Tremulous falls back to its standard resolution of 640x480, so I am pretty sure you did not remove the right configs.
