Randomly going windowed
« on: May 14, 2008, 11:50:35 pm »
I've been having a strange bug with Tremulous on Ubuntu (Latest). When I'm playing fullscreen, after a random peroid of time, it will go windowed and I'll lose my mouse. I can see my desktop and so on but my mouse is totally gone and forces me to restart my pc to bring everything back. It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing in the game when this happens. I should note I'm an ubuntu n00blet. Just moved from Vista a few days ago though I HAVE tinkered with it before then.

Kill pidgin / gaim / whatever other program you have that thinks its popups are the be all and end all.

This also happens to me. It's kinda funny, I was just about to make a topic when I saw this.

I don't restart, I press the power button on my PC which bring up the shutdown menu. I press ESC to exit the shutdown menu, then press CTRL+ALT and right, to move to desktop 2, then CTRL+ALT and left to go back to Desktop 1. I then move my mouse and it goes back to full screen and I have mouse control... but this is annoying when I'm being shot at. I try to tell people what happened but they don't care/believe me.

So, that was just a really long drawn out way of saying. I would also like help with this.

David, Nothing was running either time besides Tremulous.

Yah, I forgot hitting power and logging on/off real quick works as well as a full restart but it's REALLY annoying to be in mid-assult to randomly be popped off...

Hmm...It seems to me the Ubuntu team should know about this and patch something in not that I'm a coder. We're trying to make it easier for gamers right? Would make sense to me at least...Also could this bit be added to the FAQ? (Assuming it works, Haven't tested it yet.)

Your mouse is not gone. If it happenes again, just hit "~" or whatever openes the tremulous console on your PC to release the mouse. Then you handle the pop-up program that gave you this problem. Return to the game with "alt + enter" (toggle fullscreen mode) and "~" (toggle console).

No, when it goes windowed, you can't even bring down the console... I tried many things before finding out the screensaver bug.  After I disabled the screensaver, I have never had a problem like that again.

And isn't alt+enter for Windows?

Due to Bios Element's descripton it could be any application in the background. But good to know about that screensaver bug.
And "Alt+Enter" works fine on my linux box.

Kill pidgin / gaim / whatever other program you have that thinks its popups are the be all and end all.
You can also force all Pidgin chat windows to be hidden by default so they don't steal focus.

I did kinda already say NOTHING was running besides Tremulous. >.< So no, it was not that. It was apparently the screensaver doing it since it's fixed now.

I know. I put that there for people stumbling across this thread for the problem when Pidgin steals focus.

i had and fixed this problem, go to the autogen.cfg and change the "r_fullscreen" to 0

then whenever your mouse disappears, press ~ twice

one problem is that for some reason tremulous randomly freezes, the screen flickers, then the gamma [i believe] goes all skrewy and all the colours are wrong

No. Let n00bs pick overly destructive Human weapons and then use them in their own base and around their own teammates. Maybe then they'll learn that doing that is a stupid idea. Meanwhile, I will be slashing at their damaged Armoury, after I vault their smoking turrets and the scattered bodies of their TK' d teammates. N00bs: they're what's for breakfast.
