Painsaw Range v.s. Dretch Range
« on: June 07, 2006, 01:38:11 am »
Hey all! I just happened to notice that the dretch seems to be able to bite outside of the range of the painsaw. Just curious as to if this was intentional or a bug, as it would make sense that the 2 ranges are equal.

Thanks for the kick ass game, and the kick ass weapon :D
ay that to my painsaw!

yeah, dretch is direct contact only, like the painsaw.

Though you can sort of brush past a person, which gives the impression of range when added with lag.

The dretch bite does have more range than the painsaw, this is because the latter is supposed to be a weapon for taking out structures in a hurry (both enemy and friendly, however that doesn't work too well on servers with autokick on FF). Infact, I think the saw range was reduced several times since 1.0.0. This is because it isn't meant to be 100 credit dretch owning weapon. The fact that a lot of people don't know how to get around killing a painsaw without having a tyrant just makes everyone think it is a super awesome alien slaying weapon or something, it used to be great for killing dragoons and adv dragoons on the right hands, and it probably still is, but with the bigger player numbers on servers you are bound to run into 3-4 aliens at the same time, which is impossible to handle against any decent alien team.

Or that might be due to the fact that when attacking newbies seem to think that the painsaw is the most vital organ in the body, that it would take more damage than a headshot. Dunno, might just be the bright blue lights, like moths.

The range (and damage) has only been reduced once since 1.0.0, but that was all it took to stop the painsaw rush. =(
