The main point was that I think the maps' source should be included because there are some pretty cool things in some of them that beginers might want to look at to figure out how stuff is done.
That is a good idea, but I imagine it can be overwhelming for a new mapper to see what the experienced ones do to get the job done all in one map. It might be easier to make some sample maps that explain triggers, teamed doors, ladders, gravity, decals, basebuilding, lighting, patches, clipper, gameplay concerns, texturing, shader editing, particle system (notice the amount i'm getting just out of my head which are in a single map) and such.
Also It would be nice if maps that have a visible outdoor areas let players acces those areas (after all, why make a GREAT outdoor scene that few players will ever notice?).
Outdoor areas not being accesible can be for a number of reasons.
- Strong FPS drop
- Gameplay can be hard for aliens since they usually are wide open.
- They look great because they aren't limited by gameplay.
