well... why the bloody hell was it locked??? be a true dungeon master dude! the chance of having a funny 1.2 thread than another miserable one is priceless. if a new fella would come again with another whiner thread, you could just point him there.
especially that it's off topic thread, man.
bahhh, and if it's disturbing that people are in the mood to express something by drawings, make a second effort to think about a fanart thread, what 99% of other games has.

Yes, it was a mildly amusing picture.  However, all it was going to do is bring out the whiners and ranters about how 1.2 isn't here yet, why not, what's the hold up, etc.  The same crap that exists in numerous other threads, and doesn't need to be rehashed again.  If someone wants to bring up all the points, they can just as easily look through the other whiny 1.2 threads already.

well, i've seen a funny dude dying for 1.2...
that is a parody of the whiners, and visualizing many people's wish that 1.2 should be ready soon.
it's a supportive illustration, NOT whining.
i guess you should separate whining, like "wtfRudoingdumbf*xiwantmyfreesftwareepic1one1111ifnot_ujustPutmyAssholioIntoyourPortfolio_n00bz!" from opinions what just want to express that some of us are really waiting for the new release.

i guess many people has to be enlightened that 1.2 is a huge opportunity to place newbies and oldies to the same level and thats why they want it so much. some people should better understand this than fighting against it. the gap between new players and residents is quite huge already.

making a joke of waiting for 1.2 is something that responsible community members should handle with care. as the thread is already started with humor, you just missed a huge chance to silence the whiners by orienting them there to express their unpatiency in a creative and non-disturbing way, which would be fun for the viewers.

just think about politics, where silencing the opposite party is an effective, but questionable solution, as shown in the history...

or, for forum examples just think about lava's usual solutions of making fun of stupid threads by bagatelizing them. stupid threads are judged by the community, bad ones are flamed out of existence, good ones are staying on the surface. this is called democracy. bad solutions are not the worst solutions
by all means.

and omg, how would you like if all people waiting for 1.2 would constantly disturb all of the devs on irc, PM, etc.? devs left the forums because of this. but then where is the proper place for players to express if they want to have 1.2?

the other is if, as gareth pointed it, someone is putting an effort to visualize something.

I was going to reply to a PM that I got, but I'll put it here instead since I've nothing to hide on the matter (and it might make more sense to discuss publicly instead):

My intention was not to discourage someone from being creative; on the contrary, I'd love to see more fanart and creativity expressed.  Instead, I was trying to stop the flow of 1.2 whining from starting up again, since it's died down a bit once more and the forms are a pleasant place to read again.

If the image had been captioned differently, or some mention was made to say this was to make fun of those who whine about 1.2, I likely wouldn't have done a thing (other than make the comment that I did); my initial impression was that the cartoon was more expressing one of those whines, and although it's drawn out as a cartoon and not a "ZOMGWTF1.2NAUPL0X", it still conveyed the same meaning.

If I was mistaken in the image's intent, then I apologize.  But if I was correct, I stand behind the decision.

Oh my God, there is an "N" hidden away in Rocinante's name!  Seriously wow, I never noticed that before.

But I'm with "Your Face," I felt the lock was a tad harsh, but Rocinante is a great moderator, so I really don't hold it against him.  Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone is entitled to their opinion.  Those in power are just able to act on their opinions... I'm sure we'd all make an unpopular decision at some time or another if we were in his position.
