some people need to grown up?
« on: June 08, 2006, 04:57:06 pm »
The Story:
-i was in a server with 2 v 1 (on me) and i was human.
-i had attack and died 4 times with only 1 kill, so i was out of points
-as a joke i sed 'come attack my base now' as it would be fair. they didnt
-so i went out again, round the corner and was kill by 2 dragoons. 1 of them sed ' haha pawned u noob' which i dont think is a fair description of me.
-so after seeing the 2 dragoons i decided not 2 go far from by turrets, thus the same guy started calling me a noob camper.
-he tryed to attack the base and i heard him screem in pain so i chased him only to get killed. (only packing a rifle)
-he then sed ' haha the noob thort he could kill me'
-he tryed again and this time i chased him and kill him. so i sed 'what was that about "thort"? lol'
-now packing some armor and a shoty i went out further, i was attack by the same guy but i kill him easerly.
- so he then switched teams and deleted my reactor, got killed and changed back to aliens.
-so after all this i just left.

That's one of the things I like the least. When aliens have massively evoled and are prowling near each the human base exits and killing any human who gets out with tons and tons of dragoon, they still call humans campers ! Come on, each time a human gets out of the base he gets killed, that's why most of the humans are in the base : that's where they spawn after a death :D

Now, the real cowards are the aliens, they should be attacking the human base and not merely camping the exit points.
urphy's rules of combat
8 ) Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.
18 ) Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can't get out.

He's a loser who needs to grow up.  Switching sides to delete the reactor as retaliation is weak.

Yeah, firstly the reactor thing was 'noobish' and just shows what an immature tramp that player is. Personally i'd like to know his name so I can be wary of him in future.

Second, if you have 2 goons versus 1 human, you can easily take down turrets and end the game. This just highlights what I mentioned earlier, as he's just there to lame, not to play properly or fairly.

Well it looks like you played against some morons, however, Trem should not be played 1v2 or anything that low. Unless you have 5 people on each team, trem doesn't shine.
If yoy're alone, what else can you do but camp. And as a human, or alien for that matter, one shall not camp since it really beats the beauty of this game. Come play on AKKA or something a bit more populated. While you might encounter campers as well, you also will encounter people like pacra, mario, apple, me ( [NEX] Phreak ) and the likes of us. The only camping we do is if we're building ;)
Have fun
Yelling at team mates since 2006!

Don't let it get ya down.  There are lots of other losers out there.  Basically they haven't yet discovered the joys of maturity, honor, respect and discipline.

I want to take this opportunity though to suggest that those on servers where there are 1v1 or 2v2 etc should toss out the 'standard' game in favor of something else.  Here's an example.

I joined a server with few players.  Everyone ended up leaving except two of us because it was pretty lame - Uncreation and humans (me incl) were camping trying to build a base forward a bit.  We skipped to the next map, and now theres just two of us.  I said 'forget building bases and camping, lets just practice fighting'  I sucked at aliens at this time and wanted to get better.  He refused to come out.  I left the server for greener pastures.

Not long after:  (contrasting situation)  I ended up on a server playing 1v1.  Everyone else had left or disco'd.  The human player was a very decent fellow by the name of '...'  hereafter I'll use 'Ellipsis'..)  Ellipsis didn't camp in his base, he knew what he was up to.  Meanwhile I camped a bit as alien and taunted him and he obliged with a full assault.  What ensued was a BLAST, we just hunted each other through the hallways and I got the best practice as alien.  I came out of that matchup with some awesome skills that I had never managed to develop before that.  Ellipsis had some maturity and knew this was just a game and the result was FUN.

So if you are ever on a server with few players, don't be a dork.  Get out and play.  Don't camp, thats a waste of time.  Use the opportunity to talk to your opponents and work out a way to practice some skills and have fun.  If the person is a noob, this is a great opportunity to give them a boost.  If you're all noobs, even better!

Give the gift of fun this <insert season here>!

ah, that wasn't a tyrant you killed, it was just a baby tyrant.

a few nights ago i practiced with a fellow on tremor... simple rules:

dretch and rifle only (no armor)
no spawn-killing

it was really fun, and great practice.  I'm now a helluva lot better at aiming for the head without jumping w/ dretch..

anyone want to set up a 1v1 practice server?

When I first started playing Tremulous--about a month ago--I didn't want to clog up a good server with my horrible playing, so I intentionally went to an unused server--Derelict pub test.  Thinking that it's a test server, who's going to mind a noob here?  I now know that it's a *map* test server, but things worked out.

On Derelict (Beyond Derelict), I met Dylan who was very helpful in providing someone for me to learn against.  I'd like to thank him(?) for being so helpful and letting a noob 'get his sea legs'.  Seeing how people behave on some servers--I'm making a list--I can see how easy it would have been for me to have met them first and gotten *completely* turned off by Tremulous and not come back.  And what fun would that be?  We, as a community lose when that happens.

Maybe, and I don't want to hijack this thread--I should go start a new one--someone (please) should start up a few servers with a 6 player cap dedicated to the teaching of noobs.  To be on there, you either have to be a noob or an instructor--or fodder.  Maybe make up some simple training maps just for those servers?  Forget game balance and good base location, etc.  Just make a map that teaches (humans and aliens) how to move, gives situations for different types of weapons, tactics, etc..

In summary, I think you were fine and that the other two--if they wanted to actually *play* should have split themselves between the two teams and provided you with a demonstation of how it's done.  *that* would have been the good thing for them to do.  PM me their names if you would.  As I said, I'm keeping a list. :)

Cheers!

Just on what benplaut said, I remember a game on tjw (i think) where we hit SD and the server rules at the time stopped the OM or reactor from being rebuilt. Humans lost armory but has tesla defenses, while aliens lost OM but had unreachable eggs without jetpacks.

Everyone was reduced to either dretch or rifle even though both teams were at stage 3, but of course now nobody cares about feeding everyone just wants to get as many kills as they can.

So after a long and very close game, we had 8 vs 8, dretch vs rifle free-for-all madness where neither team could approach the other base. Seemed like a lot longer than 5 minutes too, but who knows with tjw server.

Ended up that was one of the most fun games I've had in tremulous, but you wouldnt want to do it all the time.

Sort of like a tutorial server, with pop up signs over enemys and stuff, I think that would be cool, not that I think trem really needs a tutorial, the learning curve is fairly easy if u start as a human. aliens are harder.

Well this illustrates one of the downsides of online gaming ... and it may actually have to do with frustration levels. For example I was once (long ago) playing Aliens vs. Predator 2, and I noticed that people were a LOT meaner and more frustrated and all that on weekdays rather than weekends (assuming similar time zones). It was actually a VERY prominent difference. Now there were mean people on weekends too, but they probably worked weekends.
