How do I get the new client?

Hello there kind people of trem.net.

I am running.
- Ubuntu 8.04 with Gnome Version: 2.22.2

When I enter a game, a message appears. Something in the lines of "Your client is outdated get a new one idiot". But here's the thing. I have no clue how to get a new client. I read in another thread that the one in the package manager thing is never up to date... so how can I get this new client?
I don't know how to compile or code or make good pasta. So I don't know what to do.

David

TJW's has a new client on his site at http://trem.tjw.org/backport/linux/tremulous.x86 (right click and save-as, the mime-types look fubar)
Replace that file over the current tremulous.x86 you have, I think ubuntu stick it somewhere retarded like /usr/lib/tremulous or something.
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

I'm disappointed that people's past actions have forced me to state what should be obvious.
I am not a dev.  Nothing I say counts for anything.

Ubuntu... why do you hate me?

David

If you click the 'show more details' it will say something to the tune of permission denied.
Only root can write there for security reasons.
from the command line you can use sudo to run a command as root, not sure what the ubuntu way is though.

I'm pretty sure you could use sudo cp PATH_TO_NEW_TREMULOUS /usr/lib/tremulous.
I'm a developer! If you'd like to contribute to the Equilibrium QVM project or download the latest version, please visit this thread.

QVMs now compile under Leopard; get the patch here. Requires SVN r1053 or later.
