Newbie bind/cvar questions
« on: June 09, 2006, 06:34:33 am »
Hi, I'm new here.

I wrote this for Enemy Territory, and a version for Vendetta as well and I'm planning on doing a version for Tremulous now. I can see there are plenty of binds floating around the forums, but is there a reference that covers everything that tremulous uses. A comprehensive list of everything that can be done/modified from the quake console or cfg files?

I'm not looking to cheat, but my ET config was tweaked within the limits of what was allowed. I realise there is no PunkBuster for Tremulous, is there a consensus on what constitutes cheating? Is playing with cvars safe from that point of view? How about editing crosshairs to something more to my personal preference?

I don't think there really is any standard on what is acceptable. Probably just anything that won't be abused to give someone an obvious unfair advantage, like cvar editting had in counterstrike.

Maybe you first need to get good at Trem before you can even use those 'cvars'

TBH I don't want to start learning Trem until I have a control config I can use. I've had a look at the default controls and I don't think I want to use them so I'm gonna be writing a bunch of binds and scripts to make things work more like I would like. Once I can move about fluidly, change equipment, teamchat etc without breaking a sweat I'll be ready to come online and get killed 30 times in a row by a guy armed with nothing but a cigarette lighter and a copy of "Rolling Stone".
