Howdy guys and gals,

As part of my ongoing series of asking the community for input on various things I bring you a simple, but fun request!

The screenshots page on Tremulous.net currently includes a number of old and out-dated pictures and the whole thing can do with a revamping. So it's time to get your Tremulous clients fired up and start taking those screenshots.

Requirements:

  • Pictures must exemplify the unique aspects of Tremulous and Tremulous game play.
  • Must be using the default hud or no hud at all
  • Must be of default gameplay, no crazy mods or settings
  • Edit: Any screen resolution/aspect is OK!

Submitting:

Please email your submissions to khalsa+screenshots@mercenariesguild.net as an attachment or a *direct* download link. Feel free to post thumbnails here as well to show your peers how much better your pictures are than theirs. Screenshots that are posted here but not emailed will not be considered.

Suggested Settings for high quality screenshots
  • Minimum resolution of 1024x768
  • 4x or 8x antialiasing
  • Default gamma

The higher quality pictures, the better. The best ones will be chosen by the devs and put up on the next version of the website (Coming SOON)

Good luck and happy hunting!

Haven't emailed anything yet, but I figured I'd get things started :)

I'm a developer! If you'd like to contribute to the Equilibrium QVM project or download the latest version, please visit this thread.

QVMs now compile under Leopard; get the patch here. Requires SVN r1053 or later.

When you submit those pictures, you need to click on the picture on the link-page and then the links below are the main size version.

Any valid reason to discriminate widescreen shots?

I'd like to know this as well, especially considering how popular widescreens are becoming.
Also, do you have any preference as to picture format and size?

I suspect it is because there is no native widescreen resolution and the screenshots will appear warped compared to standard monitors.

Can we edit the photo's through, example: Gimp or Photoshop. To really spice them' up.

Increase your ingame resolution.

Ellohir

Thanks!

PS: +set r_mode 6 on the command-line sets the resolution to 1024*768

Death On Ice

Nice, other than the Adv. Goon and Tyrant smooching ;)

An official web-based \"advanced\" Tremulous server browser (ex. this: http://tremmaster.quakedev.net/ but better) that can be sorted by ping, players and location that could also [optionally] include a small flag of the location of the browser and what O/S its running on. Also showing which map is currently running and if its locked or not. It could also have a search feature. And [super optionally :) ]: you could click on the server that shows you detailed info such as top player, top feeder, picture of the map, current ingame player with most kills etc etc (something like tremstats but available universally trough the tremulous official website)

Don\'t tell me clans.tremulous.net is similar to what I\'ve mentioned, its far away to be as cool as the idea I mentioned.

Well, could be I\'m seeing a bit big but it would be cool 8)

k, those where ma 3 dollaz.

Unfortunately I won't be contributing any screenies because I too refuse to lose my resolution. It's too bad though, cause I had some good ones.

Well the 4:3 thing was Dasprids request, let's see if we can't get him to justify it eh?  ;)

The problem with exotic image sizes is that they are a bitch to resize. But, can't just about every monitor do 1024x768, even the widescreen ones? It's just for taking a screenshot, not to play a game :>

David

If your image is bigger but still 4:3 then you can just shrink it.
Send in the original too, just in case.
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

I take the screenshots while playing the game. Thats the only way to get those "snapshots" which are worthy posting.

kevlarman

you can record demos of all your games (cl_autorecorddemo 1) and take screenshots from them (timescale will help fast forward)

And then I am supposed to "replay"/watch the game I already played and have no further interest in, to find that screenshot worthy snapshot angle, that is not a snapshot anymore, because it is not spontaneous?

I dont like staging things. Thats why I used the word "snapshot".

Thanks for your suggestion though.

Ingar

Record demo's, playback in slow-motion and make tons of screenshots.
FSAA 8x Bilinear Multisampling,16x anisotropic filtering, 1280x960, r_gamma 1.0

A few examples:

If I find the time, I'll make some more.

Lava Croft

Now those are some fine screenshots Ingar, especially the last one you sampled here. A Tyrant, with nothing but spent bullet casings around him. It's just too funny.

Don't stage things. Spectate good players, fly around as spectator and watch the action.
The demo recording just makes it easier to catch the perfect picture. For my previous post,
I made 150 screenshots and selected the best. All real, in-game action. No faking.

There's more to a picture then a couple of players posing against the wall. Color,
composition , movement. That's what it is about. We're trying to show the best side
of tremulous here. Sloppy screenshots give a sloppy impression and nobody wants that.

So, do as I do. Make tons of screenshots and select the very best.
The devs can select the awesome from those.
