License issues preventing Tremulous being included in Debian main (fixable!)

Started by Doctor Nick, June 22, 2008, 07:45:31 AM

Doctor Nick

The Debian package maintainers (and by extension, the Ubuntu package maintainers) cannot include Tremulous in the main repositories, because the media is licensed under the CC-BY-SA 2.5 license, which is considered non-free to the Debian legal team. The relevant bug is here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=432095

However, the CC-BY-SA 3.0 license is considered to be free by Debian. If the Tremulous devs were to relicense the media under the CC-BY-SA 3.0, Tremulous would be able to be included in main, and everything would be just dandy. Can the devs please make this happen? Or are there some legal issues stringing this up?

tremulous 1.2 will have its media licensed under the CC-by-sa-3.0

Not even the Debian license-nazis can stop Tremulous 1.2 from coming!

What's different between v2 and v3?
1
v1
No, the v stays the same.

If Bob has 4 apples, and Jenny has 2 apples, how many apples do they both have?
6 apples.

Difference is subtraction, and subtraction is much the same as addition.

It's v1, trust me.

The major changes are to do with software patents and so-called "tivoisation". Essentially, GPL v3 allows licensees to use any patents that you control which cover your GPL code without charge, and requires that your don't implement any hardware restrictions on licensees from running modified versions of the code.

But in mathematics, when you come to add a some you don\'t write 4 apples + 2 apples, you write 4 + 2.

What you are saying is used in algebra, but you don\'t need to use that to subtract 2 from 3.

Kapish?

Its 1, trust the Man of the Tins.

IMO its ambiguous.
Does it mean 2v or v2, with the 2 in the latter case being subscript?
The firsts answer would be v, the second wouldn't be able to be simplified without more information about the series.

And now for CC, not GPL ;)

Seriously, whats the difference?

debian had issue with the "no drm" clause in CC-2.5

Well, lets tie this up:

200 mph + 100 mph = ? 300 mph

1 apple + 1 apple = 2 apples

v1 + v1 = nonsense, since you cant add "versions". You just progress to the next version in favour over the old one. You are comparing nutz to peabrains.

I am sure we got an explanation in school for that "unit" problem. But, since I am an old fart and school is quite some time in the past I don't remember what it was.

TinMan

You guys all ruined my joke. Please leave this thread now. v1 and v2 are 1 different.
