I think by B4 at least, there's going to be a few more hallways and more base options.

Well, think about what you have in mind with the map. Is it a space station? A mining facility? A tower of death? etc.. But it is kind of difficult to come up with a name for your map when it still seems to be a bit barren.

Putting huge caulk boxes during mapping is perfectly fine, however if the released map still has it... its a really horrible thing to do at the least.
Large caulk boxes are useful when working on segments of the map. You don't always want to wait for the whole map to compile to test if a certain area looks ok or not.
It all depends on your  mapping style.

/on topic: with work, it could become a part of a bigger map. thats wat i do alot, i work on some idea, then put it aside for a while, and come back to it later when i have some other stuff that could work well with it.
